GB Energy went bust less than a year after I joined after MSE had endorsed them on their switching site, I'd accumulated a large credit balance I never got back.
Iresa was fined by ofgem on multiple failings, overcharged, went bust. They had zero customer support and never input readings, new supplier had to back-bill hundreds.
Tried Economy Energy who over-billed customers by hundreds, banned from taking on new customers and have now become insolvent. Same with OurPower who have also folded, Toto and Solarplicity, Eversmart, Uttily,Brilliant energy. Gnergy about to go bust, Robin Hood have just had to borrow nearly 10 million £ to stay afloat. Breeze energy, and Delta Gas and Power also rocky.
These companies also attract huge fines for not sourcing enough energy from renewable sources which is bad for the planet and back for your pocket.
Companies with tight margins over-bill customers to claw back extra cash to try to keep afloat, so there aren't really savings despite them advertising 'cheaper' unit rates. They have little to no support & eventually go bust taking your credit you've built up with them, it's a pattern we are seeing more and more.
Nobody wants to have to spend hours, weeks, months dealing with consumer complaints and trying to retrieve back their credit from being over-billed or over estimated readings. Please consider your own mental health,go with a solid and reliable company.

“I was moved to Toto Energy by the Industry, not by choice. It started a few week before they took over my account from Solarplicity whom had been useless... sporadic billing etc. I received an text from Toto extolling their virtues.... I will paraphrase:
"We are Toto Energy we are in partnership with Solarplicity and we will be performing your billing from now on. Don't worry, nothing is changing but the name....."
Lie number 1 - Solarplicity had gone bust (not in partnership with Toto)
Lie number 2 - Solarplicity have provided everyones details and charges (this was August 19, according to the industry they would not receive these details until 01 Sep 19
Lie number 3 - The prices wouldn't change - they rocketed!
It moved on the same vein from here, tried to put the correct gas reading and because it was lower than they held - was rejected. An email address was provided for this eventuality - which bounced back.
I attempted (now on my fifth attempt) to resolve these issues with very little result.
Solarplicity had not been billing because of their fankle, but I had downloaded all the bills they had produced which clearly illustrated my lower prices. During one of my contacts with Toto these documents of proof were requested which I emailed that very second while the Escalator was on the phone.
To this point, I have heard nothing on either my prices or my Gas reading.”
“Signing up was fine and easy. However when I moved house my account was in credit and they have still not refunded my money after 4+ months despite several phone calls (which always means means a long wait). They are also slow to answer email. My next step is legal action.”
