“Sorry to all the Team at Southgate in putting a review on, i was very quick when i highlighted a few issues with my timber delivery but slow to put on a review so my sincere apologies. Just a massive thanks to Charlie and Elizabeth for all their help in correcting my order. There was a three week delay in my raising an issue with my order, what with a 2 week holiday the day after my cladding was delivered and me oiling the wood. Anyway, the after service i received was nothing other than exceptional thanks to Charlie be prepared to listen to my issues raised and Elizabeth prepared to go fully out of her way to work, listen and resolve my concerns raised. Third time iv used this company now and have only ever had 5 star service. A big thanks guys, 10 out of 10 for stepping up and saving the day and more important and sadly unusual being prepared to overcome a few small issues and work with yr clients to a satisfactory outcome. Keep safe all and keep doing what you do. Pete Sheedy.”

“I ordered the cedar wood on Saturday morning on the web site, which is very easy to do. The sizes are clearly displayed and ordering could not be any easier to do. The timber was dispatched early Monday morning, courier received the packages for delivery that same day. The timber arrived to site Tuesday morning well packed and as ordered. Then due to a minor self measuring hic-up by myself. We ran out during the fitting of the cedar cladding. This worked out at 4 lengths of cedar 135mm long. I quickly ordered the smallest plank from the drop down box. Then Tuesday am the cedar plank had arrived. What fantastic service, plus the timber had very little waste on the whole order.”

“We've used Southgate Timber before on various projects around the house, and they never disappoint. This was by far the biggest project we have undertaken, and we were very very nervous. Mark at Southgate Timber guided us through the entire process. From advice on what would be the best timber to use, to how much wood we actually needed. He and his staff were second to none. This was a 7 month ongoing project - every delivery was on time, and every piece of wood was A1. Thanks Mark, thanks Lizzy, we will definitely be back.”

“We were extremely pleased with the first order. Helpful on phone and ordered on line. The timber arrived within 3 days which was amazing. However a further order was made and instead of using their own transport for some deliveries they gave the contract to Tuffnells. On phoning we were told they are waiting to hear back from Tuffnells and they do not even give you a delivery slot. So when you make an order make sure it is delivered by Southgate and not sub contracted out. Especially for delivery over £100 Wright”

“I have just watched you video on installing cedar cladding and after reading the TRADA book find all your instructions are incorrect. You have vertical cladding which should have been fixed on to horizon battens fixed to vertical battens for through flow of air. Also an air gap top and bottom so as not to trap moisture. They also recommend round head nails not punched below the surface. I am glad I did not follow your instructions.”

“Good quality timber, functional online ordering system, and helpful staff. Have ordered from them a couple of times for delivery to a residential address in London, and was very happy both times. They texted me to let me know when my delivery window would be, and arrived promptly both times.”

“The guys at Southgate Timber really helped me solve a tricky problem where i needed a 3meter long room threashold custom made as only shorter lengths were available elsewhere. I approached them with a simple (bad) drawing and with their expertise and knowledge they helped me get the design right first and then choose the correct wood (light oak), they then machined and delivered the threshold for a very reasonable cost, its a perfect fit, looks incredible and wouldnt have been done without their assistance.”

“I ordered 2k of Ballau timber. When i came to install the decking wood i found that 30% of the wood had severe woodworm. Some of the wood was warped or watermarked from long and bad storage. And finally I found LIVE TERMITES. Of course i complained but those complaints were ignored. DO NOT BUY TIMBER FROM HERE.”

“Ordered and paid for hardwood decking posts but when our builder went to collect he had to reject them due to black marks cracks and water marks spoiling their appearance. He emailed photos and we were appalled. He was only offered longer posts which were fine but cost a lot more and we did not need that length so waste of good wood and money. Emailed the company but no response this is no way to do business.. Will not deal with this company again and not recommend.”

“I ordered £800 worth of western red cedar for a fencing project, it should have been top quality for the price but 10% of the boards were write-offs, big knots holed through, rough finish not PAR, or just plain damaged. Got a refund in the end but took plenty of arguing with customer service. Simple solution, check what you send out first.”
