I bought a two year old car from SG Petch with 2 year warranty. The vehicle was supplied without a Handbook and necessary ancillary items including nut to remove wheel locking nuts - Please be aware after sales service when you have a problem is appalling and Senior management are not helpful, call backs are non-existent and my family will no longer be dealing with this branch, do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.

Will not buy from them again. Bought a BMW X3 which had been overfilled on the oil, valeting missed leaves under bonnet and biscuits crumbs in rear seat cup holder. Asked for BMW electrics on towbar tried to get away with putting on universal electrics. Quick to call you when after a sale but reluctant to return calls back. Very poor service.

I have just purchased my Hyundai Tucson from S G Petch Durham after a recommendation from a family member who had previously bought 2 vehicles from Durham . I found the whole buying experience laid back with no pressure and I could not have found the salesman Steve Payne to be more helpful , keeping me informed through all of the lead up to me collecting my car , which was delivered to the high standard promised . I have only just bought my car but I already I know that when the time comes for a change that it will be with S G Petch Durham Thank you all very much . Colin Dixon

Purchased a second hand Hyundai i 30 from the Middlesbrough. Branch, they informed me, I would receive a call prior to picking up the car a week later to confirm the exact time and date for pickup by representative Indie, this didn't happen. When picking up the car informed the car was taxed and I didn't need to road tax the car however when asked to confirm this fact in writing, I was then told the car was not taxed. A few days later phoned representative Carol to confirm all DVLA documentation was in place and I to say a wheel unlocking nut was missing, received one call on the documentation she then said she would call again concerning the missing wheel unlocking nut however she didn't bother. The experience summed up is that of dealing with dodgy second hand back street car dealer disguised as a main dealer.

Very poor on getting the basics correct. First car purchase from Darlington had another customers service pack put in the glovebox, no attempt was made to rectify this I had to return to the dealership and wait for them to sort the correct service package out after I’d been told it was ready for collection. Second car purchase from the Durham branch, after 2 weeks they still have not notified the DVLA about change of ownership. Contacted dealership, no apologies or call back to say they have rectified the situation. Very slap dash dealership.

CAUTION I would not recommend! I bought a brand new KIA Sportage NX20 UUV, even though it was delivered to the dealership on a low loader they could not explain the 80 miles on the clock. I had to return and rejected the car after technical and gear problems with it. This process took me over 5 months to sort out including getting the Financial Ombudsman involved and the Citizens Advice involved and exercising my rights under the Consumer Act 2015. Poor after sales experience(when i reported the fault a response was 'it was ok when it left the showroom', a courtesy car which was overdue a service which they said was fine, it will get done when you bring it back. Numerous phone calls which they said would be returned were not, even when I contacted them via webchat and was told I would receive a return call it never materialised . Then when I informed them about all this, the response was S G Petch have acted in a professional matter.

From the moment I found the car had been advertised at 10,000 miles less mileage than was on it, through being left sitting for over 40 minutes, waiting for the return of the salesman - who never appeared - to picking up a car that had not been valeted, and not full of petrol as promised, the experience was not good. Luckily I like the car!! I would not recommend SG Petch at Darlington, I can only hope my local Branch in Richmond (who I am told can service a hybrid) offer a better service.

Bought a Kia sportage (2 years old with about 7500 miles on the clock) in May 2017. Having had the car for 9 months the car cut out while I was driving along. I was advised at the time that this was due to my fuel filter and that the car was due for a service, so , I paid for the service (about 300 pounds I think if I remember rightly) and the car seemed to be okay again. Obviously after this I made sure my car never missed or was late for a service, so that this didn't happen again. In September I put my car in for a major service once again & I stupidly assumed this would mean the fuel filter would be changed, fast forward to yesterday afternoon and once again my car completely cut out while we were driving on a very busy road with my two children in the back, I called the garage, where only the sales department was open and I was advised someone would call me as soon as they opened in the morning . I called this morning at 8.40, and I was advised someone would call me back in two mins, they didn't, so I called again at 9.30 & I was put through to the service manager who advised it probably was the fuel filter and that it hadn't been changed on my last service because it didn't need changing (I beg to differ when within 3 months it is causing my car to stop mid journey). Clearly regardless of whether or not my car is served regularly my fuel filter is going to keep causing this problem, and I cannot rely on the garage to change it when it is in the garage getting its service. I have been told by the manager there that they drove my car back to Catterick after the service and that no engine lights came on so clearly the fuel filter didn't need changing- so that is the peace of mind I have paid £300 for, knowing it can make it safely 5 miles home. I guess they expect me to wait until my car stops running on the motorway with my kids in the back to find out that it needs to be changed. I have now booked the car in else where for the work, and I will be making sure I tell everyone that listens about the appalling service of this garage.

Generally the purchase went ok but there were one or two points worth mentioning. The salesman had told us it was a 5 speed auto gearbox but it's a 4 speed, as there wasn't a parcel shelf in the car when we looked at it he told us they don't normally come with them (Mmm) but the Petch advert photos showed that car with a shelf and it was provided. On handover he volunteered to tell DVLA online that out part ex car was out of our ownership but all he did was to SORN the car with them. Not sure of his motives for that one. Fortunately I had taken a copy of the necessary slip on the V5a and we did it ourselves when we got home. That said the car is lovely and we are very pleased with it and so far going very well.

Took my Hyundai Tucson to SG Petch Hyundai Durham garage for it’s MOT due to it been closer than Gateshead Hyundai garage. Just under 3 years old and came back with both rear shock absorbers needed replacing and all 4 tyres cracked. Was advised to get changed as soon as I could. Done some research and found shock absorbers were under warranty. Called back and got booked in, why didn’t garage say this on pickup? As for tyres told it’s not their problem even though all four, reported cracked. Had car in again and was referred about tyres to ring Hankook. Talked to Hankook and said garage would deal with it if I bought new and probably get refunded difference on wear. Rang garage and wanted no part. They called Hankook and basically said the garage where I bought car from had to deal with it. Called Evans Halshaw and were happy to help, they couldn’t understand why SG Petch wouldn’t deal with problem. Never going to deal with this garage again. Poor customer service and no interest if there’s any problem.

After sales service from the Middlesbrough branch is disgusting. bought a second ix35 with white powder marks on the wheels, arranged to get them replaced but after 10 months the wheels were the same. agreed to pay half and when I went to collect the car only 3 wheels had been replaced and was informed by Laura Williams that if I wanted the forth wheel replaced I would have to pay full price, I have purchased my cars from this branch for many years and dealt with Tony Hill who is fantastic sales guy. I was told that the manager would ring me ? still waiting after 3 months. would not recommend SG Petch Middlesbrough

Experience was ok but tyre pressure warning light on dash was on before the car I bought went supposedly through workshop and was still on the day I collected it Makes me wonder if any inspection or pre handover check was completed

I was buying a car from over 100 miles away due to limited availability. That said, everyone I dealt with on the day was unfailingly friendly and helpful, and the car itself was exactly as expected and in excellent condition for collection. I won't be using them for service etc as we are in Stockport but for sales etc I have no complaints at all.

Initial contact and pre sale, we the wife and I were very happy with all aspects of buying a new 69 reg car. The sales person met and bettered all of the criteria We required from finance to vehicle type and specs. A refundable deposit was given by us. However we cancelled the purchase About 7-8 days before the end of February 2019. We requested the refund of the deposit and expected it to be in the bank in about a week. To date 18/03/19 no refund even after numerous calls,emails & on line chat sessions and assurances it would be dealt with, the reality ZILCH and no one to one contact from Petch. The moral of this story they will bend over backwards to get you to buy,cancel and your no longer worthy of any courtesy or of being contacted. Obviously we are not recommending Petch of Durham to family and friends and to those of you who read this review. There was not a virtually impossible choice of “How easy was it to get a refund” so highlighted the Very Hard Our next step looks as though it will have to be us contacting a solicitor for getting our deposit back and seek compensation as well as legal costs.

I sometimes feel uncomfortable going into a garage as I don’t know a great deal about cars. I had searched nearly every garage in Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham for my new motor and come across some ‘interesting’ sales techniques! However, Rob was excellent and not hard sell or intimidating at all. He kept in touch with me every step of the way when purchasing my car. I will definitely be returning! Rob rocks!!
