I sold my BMW X5 on Motorway.co.uk. The day the car was auctioned the winning dealer somehow managed to take out finance on my car without me even accepting the deal. It was a BMW dealer who I was going to purchase my next car from who advised me that there was finance on my car which was a surprise to me as I have never financed the car. The finance company was also surprised but we managed to figure out who had financed the car after I had to give them all the details about where I had advertised the car and who the winning dealer was on Motorway.co.uk On the day of collection the dealer turned up with a friend, straight away feeling up the car and as soon as I walked out to meet them they started with accuses of respray here and there despite the car being in almost perfect condition. The car had never been resprayed and had full service history from BMW Park Lane. I had been totally honest with the condition of an 8 year old car. The dealer then started moaning about how I got him onto a train all the way down from Bury and the car was advertised a gold standard but at best it's a bronze. That comment really annoyed me for which I nearly did not sell at all to him. I dropped the price by £649 which was a big mistake but this was due to the pressure from both people. Even then they wanted another £1000 off. I ended talks and walked inside telling them that this was never going to happen. They drove from behind the car to the front and stopped, they got off and came and said we will accept the price I had mistakenly agreed to. The process from there was straight forward as money was paid into my account, paperwork given. I had created my own buyer/seller receipt which we both signed, dated and timed. Although I still got better than the book value I still feel I let the car go at least £500 cheaper than I should have. This was defiantly a lesson well learned for me. If you do sell on Motorway.co.uk then make sure no matter what pathetic accuses the trader/dealer makes do not lower the price. if they walk away let them as they will most likely come back.

Hi Usman, Thanks for your review. We’re sorry you were unhappy with your experience. In some cases a dealer may take a stocking loan against the vehicle they intend to purchase as this speeds up the buying process. They are able to cancel this loan if the sale does not go ahead as planned. Whilst we do of course appreciate that you submitted all of the required photos that were requested by our sales team, there can be often be other issues, either known to you as the seller or otherwise, that may not be easily distinguishable in the photos alone. This is why it's common practice for all buyers to request and carry out a thorough inspection at the point of collection. Buyers are expected as part of our process to supply photos in evidence of any reduction, we use these photos to assess whether or not reductions are fair, with a view to regulating buyer behaviour on our platform. In this instance the buyer has failed to provide the photos we requested so we have referred this matter to our Dealership Management team and will reiterate our expectations around conduct and producing evidence for any reductions in no uncertain terms. Please rest assured that where dealers have been found to have acted improperly in the past, Motorway have always been very quick to take any and all necessary actions, including the issuing of lifetime bans, in order to ensure a much better standard of service in the future. You’re never obligated to accept a lower price of course, as it is a voluntary transaction for all parties throughout, but the vehicle must be as described in order to achieve the agreed price. Our Sales Support team is always on hand to assist if you experience any issue with your sale, but it seems we were not made aware of any issues at the time of collection so were unable to assist. We're sorry your experience with Motorway was not more in line with our usual high standards of customer satisfaction, but ultimately we're happy that you managed to sell your car and wish you all the best going forward. Best regards Arzumand Sales Support Team
I asked at very beginning if I could deal with paperwork for a grieving friend and was told yes as long as owner was there for final sale & collection but a week latter they changed the rules at point of sale and now wanted solicitors letter to aprove sale. If you try to deal with customer service its like a world wide yellow pages, you'll never know from what country the rep will answer from but what can you guarantee is they wont understand you properly.

Hello Thanks for your review and for bringing this incident to our attention. We’re very sorry to hear you were unhappy with your experience. Having reviewed your communications with us, it is clear that you were not provided with the level of service we would expect, and we apologise for this. With standard bereavement cases, we do require written consent from the selling party to demonstrate that they have authority to sell the vehicle. In this case, however, as the appropriate individual would be onsite to perform the handover, we should in hindsight have revoked this request. We have now fed this back to the agents in question and will provide additional training to ensure a better standard of service going forward. Nevertheless, I understand that this will have been frustrating for you and I apologise for any additional distress or inconvenience caused. Please rest assured that we are currently reviewing our processes for such outlier cases as bereavement, power of attorney and others to ensure sellers are given clear guidance in advance to help things move more smoothly going forward. Again we're very sorry your experience with Motorway was not more in line with our usual high standards of customer satisfaction. Moving forward if you are still looking to proceed we would be happy to relist the vehicle with no letter of authority required. We have also reached out to you via email so please do let us know if you'd like us to arrange this for you otherwise, we wish you all the best going forward. Kind Regards, Leia Sales Support Specialist
Was quick to sell, but they started picking on everything that was not important to reduce the car price, which ended up being £1100 lower. NOT ACCEPTABLE!!

Hi there, Thanks for your review. I’m sorry you were unhappy with the reduction of your offer at the point of collection. Unfortunately, on inspection, if the buyer identifies any issues that weren’t listed on the profile, this may lead to a reduction or cancellation of the sale. In your specific case, the buyer discovered various scratches, chips and dents over the vehicle that had not been previously declared. Based on the photographic evidence they have provided, we agree with their assessment. As well as this they advised that the clutch would need replacing and there was an engine rattle while the car was taken for a test drive. When they had originally bid on the car they had not factored this into their price and so they asked to reduce to account for the repair costs. Engagement with Motorway is a completely voluntary process for both sellers and buyers and we hope you understand that we cannot force a buyer to purchase a vehicle that they are unhappy with in the same way that we cannot force a seller to sell at a price that they are unhappy with. We do try to avoid this process by advising sellers to be as truthful as possible about the condition of their vehicle to avoid wasting your time, our time or the buyer’s time on a sale with the potential of being reduced or cancelled by the dealer at collection. Many online car buyers will offer you an initial quote based on limited information about your vehicle, which is then reduced on inspection and subject to fees. The difference when using Motorway is that we determine and agree your price in advance, and the price we agree is the price you receive on inspection with no fees and free home collection. I’m glad that you were ultimately able to come to an agreement with the buyer of course and proceed to sell your vehicle. We would like to thank you for selling with Motorway and wish you all the best going forward. Best regards, Dominic Sales Support Team
Rubbish. Far longer and more laborious process than is indicated in the commercials. Failed to achieve the agreed target price by over £1,000.

Hi John, Thanks for your review, sorry that you were unhappy with the offer you received for your car compared to the initial online valuation. Our estimates are based on industry guide prices, live market data, and our previous sales history, as well as specific details our sales team discuss regarding the history, specification, and condition of your car. This allows for highly accurate price analysis at scale, so in most cases offers come out on or around the reserve price as an accurate representation of the vehicle value. This is absolutely not a cap on what you can achieve however. We operate a blind bidding system, so buyers can't see what other buyers have offered, and although we cannot guarantee there will be a high level of interest for every car sold through our platform, where competition is high, a car may exceed the estimate by any margin. Unfortunately, in this instance it looks like your car generated very limited interest from our UK wide network of dealers and only received the one offer below the estimated selling price. You’re never obligated to accept a lower offer of course, as it is a voluntary transaction for all parties throughout. I am sorry that you were dissatisfied with how the sale went but if you would like to discuss this further please contact us at reviews@motorway.co.uk. Best regards, Sam Sales Support Team
A long drawn out process, definitely a better option than we buy any car, however bad customer service. They talk a good talk but they don’t follow up. I raised many issues with them with “we will call you back” guess what! It didn’t happen. If you have the option to part exchange it’s a lot less hassle.

Hi Mandy, Thanks for your review. Sorry you felt there were issues with the service provided. We're unable to locate a sales record under the name provided here, so if you could please contact reviews@motorway.co.uk with the reg, phone number, or email you used to submit your valuation with us, we will look into this. Best regards, James Sales Support Team Senior
Eventual waste of time.At first sight it seems that sale valuations you get, coming up online, are going to be actually pretty accurate. After giving all car details, photographs etc,you think the figures given from various dealers will apply and that you just wait for car to be collected. Not so. After being told collection date is being sorted out, you then find that the price you expected doesn't apply , and Motorway are only then getting actual prices from bidding dealers- bearing no resemblance to their previous figures they had been giving you. Wasted several days on this site.My actual offer figure was£750 pounds lower than ,previous Motorway figure. Decided to visit Carshop, next day and sold the car straightaway, :,immaculate,AudiA1 S l, ine sportback, tiptronic, all leather, for better than highest motorway price, with immediate payment.Would highly recommend.

Hello, I'm sorry you weren't happy with the offers made on your car. Motorway act as a broker, so we don't set prices ourselves, but seek to find you the best offer available from dealerships across the UK. The way Motorway works is to give you an initial valuation using TruePrice algorithms, which utilise previous sales history, DVLA data, dealership guide prices, and live market data to predict the value of your car. This assumes no damage, full main dealer service history, and top specification. Offers usually match or exceed the TruePrice, but sometimes come under if the car is of low specification, has issues with service history, or damage. Offers may also be lower if there is a reduced level of demand in the current market for the car. Ultimately however, you are free to accept or reject these offers before anyone comes to see the car. I'm glad you were able to find a buyer for your car at a price you were happy with, and I'm sorry that you were not able to sell with Motorway on this occasion, but we wish you all the best. Best regards, James Motorway Aftersales Team

Dear customer, Sorry you were unhappy with your prices from Motorway. Offering a price comparison service, we do all we can to find the highest prices possible, but it sounds like our partners were unable to meet your price expectations in this instance. Often we do beat competitor prices. Please email us at offers@motorway.co.uk if you require more assistance. We may be able to find you a better offer. Kind regards, Lauren Taylor, Customer Support.
Selling the car bit was quick getting the money for the car was another thing. Car was taken to a large Vw dealership still awaiting payment. 5 days later. Yup I know it was the weekend. But most people pay when they pick up the car. Theory is watch who you sell to.

Dear Karen, sorry to hear you were unhappy with the payment. The money should now be with you today (Monday). As it was the weekend, it appears to have caused a small delay. This is unusual and we will look into it. In the meantime, please do call us on 01444 620 630 if you require further assistance and we will be happy to help you. Kind regards, Alex Buttle, Director.

On the phone I was guaranteed £120, which was £30 less the than the 'other' company, but the agent said that that firm would take off at least £50 in admin etc, and again guaranteed me £120. When I took the car in the most they would give me was £50, I would have been better off going to the other company.

Hi Alexander. I'm sorry to hear that you received a lower price than you were quoted over the phone by one of our car buying partners. If you are guaranteed a price over the phone that is the price you should receive, unless the car is in a different condition or specification than you have described it as. To resolve this issue please contact the car buying partner that you sold the car with. Thanks, Lauren @ Motorway.
