Stay well clear. Horrendous with communication. Constantly phoned them chasing for an update as to when my vehicle would be collected. Personally delivered my car to Ashford Orbital Kia only to be told that my vehicle was not sellable (3 year old car) by the obnoxious Kia salesman. He made no offer for the car and dismissed me like a piece of dirt on his shoe. I had declared ALL scratches and uploaded all clear visible photos of the scratches. Wasted 1.5 hours of my time driving there and wasted money on fuel. Disgusting service. Would never ever use again and most certainly would NOT recommend this company. Highly recommend anyone goes to Webuyanycar.com instead - now that was an incredible service. Don’t touch Motorway with a barge pole!!! They’re misleading and horrendous at communicating. And don’t touch Ashford Orbital Kia either!!

Hi Emily, Thanks for your review and for bringing this matter to our attention, we're very sorry to hear that you've had a negative experience. Usually we expect buyers to make initial contact within 2 working days from the point your documents have been approved. We then expect the collection to be arranged and completed shortly thereafter. Whilst we appreciate that on occasions delays can happen for reasons beyond our control, this is absolutely not how we want to be represented and we apologise for any inconvenience caused to you as a result. At Motorway we take accusations related to poor dealer conduct very seriously so we're keen to investigate this for you in more detail to determine exactly what happened. Unfortunately though, we're unable to locate your vehicle profile using the limited information provided here within your review. For this reason we kindly request that you send an email along with any additional information that you believe could aid our investigation to reviews@motorway.co.uk. Kind regards, Sam Sales Support Specialist
Merc A Class, original valuation 5900 I provided all the info at the time of valuation but when they needed to speak to me it was reduced to 5600 so be careful... Dealer contacted me to arrange collection and viewing, Absolutely thrashed and red lined my car and decided the clutch is slipping! I told him I dont drive like that nor does anyone else, but 'Mr expert' said yes normal people don't drive like this! decided to offer me £800 less, absolutely shocking experience and left feeling violated. I dont recommend this service to anyone after my experience. Dealer also made me send him a text to confirm the clutch is slipping, I advised him saying im no mechanic and it wasnt slipping for me, oh but I will get charged as I am not buying the car after you refused my lower offer. No dealer would ever let us thrash a car the way he did on a 'test drive' I have mentioned this to motorway who where understanding and apologetic. wont be using them again

Hello, Thanks for your review and for providing the information we required in order to identify your profile. We’re sorry that you were unhappy with your buyer. We take accusations of poor dealer conduct very seriously and have spoken to the dealer in question to provide feedback and reiterate our expectations regarding their future conduct going forward. Motorway does not tolerate any conduct by our dealership partners which causes distress or alarm to our sellers or brings our own name into disrepute. We have referred this case to our Dealership Management team, and we will also be monitoring the buyer’s future purchases for any sign of repeat issues. Where dealers have been found to have acted improperly in the past, Motorway has always been quick to impose any and all necessary sanctions, including the imposition of lifetime bans, to maintain the integrity of our platform and ensure the best possible experience for our sellers. However, unfortunately, if the buyer identifies any issues which were not listed on your selling profile, they may look to cancel the sale or adjust their offer at the point of collection to take this into account, as your offer is based on the accuracy of the information provided and advertised on your profile. In this instance, the buyer has identified a possible issue with the clutch that we were not made aware of prior to listing your vehicle. This is not to say that their appraisal was definitely correct, but being remote from the inspection we need to take the buyers feedback seriously, as generally speaking buyers will not pay to collect a vehicle only to back out of an agreed sale without a valid reason. After reaching out to you directly and presenting you with the options going forward, It is regrettable that you were no longer looking to proceed with us and we wish you all the best in selling your vehicle via other means. Kind Regards, Leia Sales Support Specialist
My £3000 car very low genuine mileage , you offer £895 don’t think so, then you say I could get a better price elsewhere , so why you offer £895 , disgusting

Absolutely brilliant service! It took just 3 days to sell my car at a great price way above webuyanycar! The buyer paid immediately and collected my car from home. Can’t recommend these guys enough.
Helpful Report
The advice given wasn't correct, the company suggested (The Car Buying Group) did reduce their initial valuation before arrival, they did then haggle the price even lower on collection, they did take over an hour to resolve, they did exaggerate on their idea of marks on my car and were not very helpful. I was told this company purchase to a higher level than others, that wasn't true, I had 2 higher offers I wish I would have stuck with. I will not use again and I will not recommend. Avoid unless you want hassle. I suppose this review will not be published, I only notice good ones. Funny that. Very disappointed and dissatisfied with company, service and result.

Dear Mr Smith, I am really sorry to hear you were so disappointed with your experience of selling with Motorway. We wholeheartedly recommend The Car Buying Group - they are one of our most popular buying partners and we receive excellent feedback regarding their service on a daily basis. Our customers typically find them helpful, transparent, honest and conscientious, so your review was a huge shock to us! We have spoken at length with them and they have explained what happened in their own words. Their version of events is quite different, but they agree that they did need to reduce the price by a minimal amount at inspection based on the car damage being significantly worse than expected - the reduction was priced as fairly as possible on additional photographic evidence of scratches and scuffs. In our experience, this happens extremely rarely as they ask customers about any damage in advance over the phone in a detailed consultation. The Car Buying Group have also let us know they would like to speak with you and will get in touch with you to discuss your concerns, you can also reach them on 0800 118 2544. Also, to address another of your points, we do not hide away from genuine reviews of our service and our scores are all from verified users. We aim for complete customer satisfaction every time someone sells a car sthrough us and we are extremely proud of our high average review score. I hope that is helpful, you can reach us at offers@motorway.co.uk if you have any further concerns regarding Motorway. Best regards, Alex Buttle, Director.
AVOID, AVOID, ADVOID!!!!! Would give minus stars if possible....Wow, what can I say? What an absolutely horrendous experience it was (attempting) to use Motorway to sell my car. 1st time a chap from Cargem, came round to view my vehicle and identified 'invisible' dents / scratches and then plugged in a diagnostic machine which showed my car was barely road legal (not the case at all!) Since then I have taken it for a full MOT, service and asked for a full diagnostic assessment (at the cost of £70) and as I thought it all came up normal (probably because me dashboard wasn't lit up like a Christmas Tree! Tried them again today only to be told that the price I was quoted yesterday evening had expired, as it had already been 7 days..... To say I am shocked is an understatement. Anyway, be warned and go to ANY other company who buy & sell cars.

Hello, Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear you were unhappy with your experience. We're keen to look into this, but unfortunately your review does not contain enough information to identify your specific vehicle and sale. If you could provide us with the vehicle registration, phone number, or email address you used to sign up with us, we'll be happy to take a look at this. You can provide this by emailing reviews@motorway.co.uk. The Motorway Team
Completely screwed! Last December, tried to sell my Toyota Auris 1.8 Hybrid via Motorway. Initially they gave me an enticing price but after all I had been instructed to do had been done, one of their employees got involved & lowered the price 3 times in the space of 30 minutes! Got upset with the attitude of this employee so much so, that I cancelled the sale! A couple of days later, I contacted Motorway again, spoke to a more trustworthy & polite employee & agreed that they place my car on the next auction. The sale was successful & this guy managed to get me a far better price than the previous one! Everything was going smoothly until the “11th hour” when the first employee got him/herself involved again (but this time behind the scene!) & imposed a “stop” on the whole deal. When I complained vociferously with Motorway about the matter, they did apologise for the way I was treated and even offered me compensation for it - which I refused - as I didn’t want anything else to do with them but promised I would leave them negative reviews on several fora! As such, I definitely do not recommend anyone to trade with Motorway but would suggest they conduct their business elsewhere!

Hello, Thanks for your review and for bringing this to our attention, we’re very sorry to hear you were unhappy with your experience. Although you've stated that you have previously complained about this issue and that we offered you some form of compensation which you refused, as you have posted this review anonymously we’re unable to locate your vehicle profile using the information provided here alone, and therefore we will be unable to look into this for you in any further detail. The journey so far.... Sold me daughters car and this complete waster turned up and said he had to reduce the price because it needed a Cam Belt change. Called my service garage who confirmed the car is fitted with a Chain not a Belt so no need to change. The dealer kept banging on about how he had to pay Motorway nearly £300 commission so it would make the car too expensive anyway. He tried to tell me that a Cam Belt Kit is typically about £350 just for the parts - even though it hasn't got one urrrr. I will update as soon as I hear back from Motorway as to the next move. Hopefully they'll surprise me. In hindsight, should have listed on eBay or AutoTrader

Hello, Many thanks for your review, we’re sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with your buyer. Unfortunately, if the buyer identifies any issues which were not listed on your selling profile, they may look to cancel the sale or adjust their offer at the point of collection to take this into account, as your offer is based on the accuracy of the information provided and advertised on your profile. In this instance, the initial buyer confirmed that they had identified a possible issue with the timing chain/belt, as well as an oil leak and multiple stone chips on the bonnet for which they provided additional photos as evidence. With regard to the fees paid by the dealer, we apologise that these were mentioned as they do not involve the seller and are agreed upon directly between Motorway and the purchasing dealer. We have now spoken to the dealer in question to provide feedback and reiterate our expectations regarding their future conduct going forward. We take accusations related to poor dealer conduct very seriously, so please rest assured that we will be speaking with them to provide your feedback to ensure that similar issues are avoided in the future. Nevertheless, we're pleased to see that your most recent sale has now concluded without further issues. We would like to thank you for providing your feedback and we wish you all the best going forward. Kind Regards, Leia Sales Support Specialist
I sold my car through motorway and had a really good experience, car sold quickly and for a good price. I then suggested that my husband sell his car through them and it couldn't have been worse. The car was originally valued at over £1,200 and then was reduced to £1,000. He received an offer of £875 which he reluctantly accepted only for the 'dodgy dealer' to come and look at the car and subsequently mislead my husband into accepting an offer of £600 by telling him it had numerous faults. And also paid him in cash (which I understand is illegal). Then the day after we saw the car for sale on the dealer website for £2,500. My husband has emailed motorway numerous times to get no response.

Very poor. Wasted 2days of my time then the dealer pulled out before coming out to see the car. They had offered me just over £36k which I accepted and we agreed a collection date, then their buyer miraculously disappeared the morning before collection was due. They then offered me £34k. Consumer beware - I certainly wouldn’t will not use again.

Hi David, I'm very sorry that you had this experience when selling your car. Unfortunately, the original bid was withdrawn by the dealership, which we will be looking into to. We subsequently attempted to find you a new buyer, but were unsuccessful in matching the bid placed by the previous dealership. I apologise once again for the time you wasted, and that we were not able to find you an equivalent bid despite our best efforts. We wish you the best of luck selling elsewhere, and all the best going forward. Kind regards, James Motorway Aftersales Team
Well I needed a laugh and got one... 10 month old ford transit 8700 miles on the clock... filled in the boxes and waited with baited breath for the quotes..... just over £12k for the first offer.... oh and the best offer £600 scrap!!!... you couldn’t make it up...

Hi Ivor, I'm sorry you were disappointed with your prices from Motorway. It's worth me pointing out that we are a price comparison engine and work with instant buyers across the market. Prices will be different to those you see on retail platforms like Auto Trader and eBay, but the experience is can be much faster. That said, while we do not control our partners' guide prices, we take pricing very seriously and aim for accurate instant purchase prices at all times. To help improve the pricing experience for all our users, we launched our own technology called TruePrice to reduce the chances of price shocks for sellers on the day of sale. You can read more about that here: https://motorway.co.uk/guides/trueprice Also - on the prices you received.... We work with a range of buyers - from the UK's top franchise dealerships, to online car buyers to scrap buyers and there will always be price differentials. As your car is worth much more than the scrap value, we would not expect you to choose that option - and hence that price (when sorted on amounts) was at the bottom of the table. It sounds like you believe your car is worth more than £12,000. If you would like to discuss pricing further, please email us at offers@motorway.co.uk and we will do all we can to help. Thanks, Alex, Director.
Totally disgusted with this de-valuation of vehicles, to gain profit from all the customers looking to sell their vehicles, companies like this get rich schemes disgust me, we pay high prices to purchase these items, only to have companies like this to insult us! Would be interesting to purchase a car off them, ask how much, then, go home & see how much they say it's worth, bet it doesn't go in our favour!!

Dear Ms L Disgusted, Thank you for your review. Sorry you were not happy, I was deeply saddened to hear of your frustration with the prices from online car buyers we work with. To explain our reason to exist, Motorway is a price comparison website and we display the prices given to us by the UK's leading online car buying websites. We are not looking to de-value cars or insult people, in fact the opposite is true - we exist purely to bring transparency to the market by showing all the prices and offers available from our partners in one place. Prices, offers, review scores and collection criteria do vary a lot from one buyer to the next, however, we share all this info in our detailed comparison tables, allowing our customers to make an informed choice about who they sell to. Unfortunately, the rates from online car buyers are sometimes lower than you will see on Auto Trader or on dealer forecourts, as every online buyer sells the car on (whether at auction, to a brokerage, to a specialist dealer or direct to the public), however the service from an online car buyer is typically quick, efficient and hassle free. We are striving to offer higher prices all the time, but most of our customers already appreciate the transparency we bring to the market (which is reflected by many excellent reviews elsewhere and our extremely high average review score). I hope that is helpful. If you have any further questions, please do get in touch at offers@motorway.co.uk, we will be more than happy to help. Kind regards, Alex Buttle, Director, Motorway.
My car is in excellent condition even to sell it to scrap dealers I would get more than double that they offered me. £90 for a Citroen Picasso in excellent condition with lower mileage than average. What a rip off they tried with me.

Hi Olwyn I am sorry you were disappointed with the offers you received on Motorway. I can see that you received three offers for your car, including one from CarTakeBack, our scrap dealer. We constantly receive good feedback about CarTakeBack and their prices, but I'm sorry if it wasn't the price you expected from a scrap dealer. We are constantly improving Motorway and adding new partners so I hope you will try us again the next time you need to sell a car. Best regards Harry
Worst service providers to dealers. DEALERS BE WARNED ! Your business or any loyalty to this company means nothing. Literally they will cut you off and not get back to you. After spending £50,000 in fees and turning over 1.5 million through them in a few months they closed our account without any reason other than the fact their platform has many issues. We went all over the country trying to collect stock which turns out to be misdescribed leaving us with huge transport costs. Sam “a senior accounts investigator” literally blocked us with no warning. Got a call from Luca who wanted some information about an issue they had and wasted 1 hour on the phone call with not even a courtesy call back. Waited since Friday and sent a email today to follow up. With a email to say Jon is out the office this week. Called the number he provided for Becky who was covering which doesn’t goes straight to voicemail. Do not leave your current stock provided for this company. We will be sharing our experience with our partner companies and making sure no purchases are made until they call back. Cannot believe the level of incompetence from a relatively new platform. Rather that work with dealers they harm the business by blocking your account. Leaving you no records for vat and tax returns. We will be notifying regulating bodies and the ombudsman as they have blocked us from being able to paper trail our accounts. Shame the service and customer service is so poor.

Really very poor customer service. Tried to list a car for a 92 year old relative who lives alone and is completely immobile but Motorway refused to accept perfectly acceptable photos of the car. Then faced with the brick wall that was their inflexible customer service who just couldn’t understand that they had the potential to help a really old man get a couple of grand for his car but couldn’t see beyond their computer says no mentality. Really disappointing, unhelpful and unsympathetic way to do business. Took the same photos elsewhere where they were accepted without hesitation. Way to waste an old man’s time, guys.

Hello Will, Thank you for your review, we are sorry to hear that you were not happy with the experience of getting your vehicle into sale. After completing the investigation, we are able to advise that we would not be able to proceed with the pictures that have been provided due to parts of the vehicle not included in the photo. In regards to the photos requested, Motorway doesn’t purchase your car directly, but assists in sourcing offers from dealerships across the UK. To do this, we build an in-depth profile of your car which takes into account the condition, history, and specification of your specific vehicle. In this instance, the photos provided did not provide a complete view of the vehicle due to the angles of the pictures that were taken. It is from our understanding that you were asked to retake certain photos but were not able to as the vehicle was located 6 hours away from yourself. If the buyer identifies any issues that weren’t listed on the vehicle profile they may look to adjust their offer at the point of collection to take this into account, as your offer is based on the accuracy of the information provided and advertised on your profile. This is why we request certain pictures at the advised angles to be provided to avoid issues like this from occurring at the point of collection. Motorway doesn’t purchase your car directly, but assists in sourcing offers from dealerships across the UK. Our estimates are based on industry guide prices, live market data, and our previous sales history. After receiving your initial valuation online you are invited to speak with a member of the sales team to discuss any specific details regarding the history, specification, and condition of your car. Once the condition of your car has been discussed in more detail your estimated selling price is calculated. Naturally any issues discussed on this qualifying call such as stone chips, dents, scratches, or any other cosmetic or mechanical issues will need to be taken into account, this is why your estimated selling price may differ from the initial online valuation. However, this is necessary to ensure that any prospective buyers are fully aware of the condition of your car before bidding in the daily sale. This also allows for highly accurate price analysis at scale, so in most cases offers come out on or around the estimated selling price as an accurate representation of the vehicle value. Nevertheless, we are happy to hear that you were able to successfully sell your vehicle elsewhere and would like to wish you all the best moving forward. Warm Regards, Dalveer Sales Support Escalation Team
As a dealer I don’t rate this company at all, poorly described cars, terrible communication, horrendous delivery/ inspections like gearbox crunch, gearbox whining, damaged panels, the list is massive so definitely don’t expect the car you thought you was buying.

Seller spuriously demanded £1000 off when turned up based on timing belt not having been changed. Car has a timing chain which never needs changing. Then reduced to wanting £750 discount. Absolute waste of time. Motorway should vet these cowboys.

Unfortunately, in this instance your vehicle generated limited interest from our network of buyers which is why we were unable to secure and offer for you that exceeded your agreed reserve. Again we are very sorry if this was not the outcome you were hoping for but nevertheless, we really appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback and we wish you all the best finding a buyer for your car elsewhere.
