"I am so pleased I used Monaco Solicitors. Nicola was great to deal with from the start I was left with confidence that she would get me the best deal and she definately has. Together we increased a exgratia payment by an astonishing factor of 1.5.
Then above and beyond Nicola made sure my fees were tax efficient.
I should end it here but I will rant on a bit more with a hope it helps you with your decision at this stressful moment.
I didn't know Monaco solicitors before this encounter so I did call around to four other companies before selecting Monaco and I asked the same questions 1) is the offer fair 2) should I ask for more. The answers I got elsewhere were 1) Yes 2) our hourly rate is xxx if you want to ask for more from your employer you will be charged between 6 hours and 10 hours depending on the work requested. They then asked my details so they could run "conflict of interest" check. At the end of my research it just felt that the competitors were only interested in a basic fee and that our interests were not aligned.
So I activated Nicola at Monaco and the fee charged was appropriate to the end result and as it turned out 1) the offer wasn't fair 2) yes I should ask for more.
If you got this far thanks for reading I hope your encounter with Monaco Solicitors is as good as mine was. wishing you all the best."
"First of all, there website is very informative and reassuring - 5 stars for that. However, after that - well, how would you rate a company that offers to respond to an online query within an hour (which means an automated email and nothing else) and then still no response after two phone calls?
ACAS recommends giving an employee 10 calendar days to respond to a settlement offer. I finally received an email from Monaco just before 6pm 11 days after the meeting I had asked them to support me with.
Don't judge them by their website, but on their actions."
We are sorry that we disappointed on this occasion.
Our aim is to offer a quick response to all online enquiries and subject to the availability of our specialist lawyers, arrange for a consultation.
We realise that this did not happen on this occasion and for reasons that we are investigating, there was a significant delay in arranging for a solicitor to call. We have reflected on this and have immediately put in place measures to ensure that enquiries do not fall between the cracks in the future.
Regrettably, we cannot assist everyone who makes contact with the firm as we receive a large volume of enquiries. We do, however, try to assist as many people as we can and that is why we offer the largest free online employment law resources of any law firm in the UK.
We are however pleased that our detailed and informative website delivered and hope that it can be a resource that you can use should the need arise in the future.
"Garvey Hanchard took time to consider a problem that a member of my family had regarding workplace bullying arising out of a whistle blowing incident. Garvey went above and beyond listening to and considering the information that we provided him with and made suggestions about the best way forward, and what was in my relatives interest.
Prior to speaking to Garvey, I was extremely mistrustful of solicitors. I was really surprised by his approach and my faith has been restored! Based on our experience with Monaco Solicitors, I’d say that they are an ‘ethical’ organisation and a firm that you can trust. In my opinion, when you’re ringing around for help, make Monaco Solicitors your first choice."
"I will be forever grateful to Nicola Welchmann. I don't know how I would have got through the past few months without her.
Nicola gave me solid advice from the start of what was an extremely difficult case. My employer loaded the deck against me in an extremely unfair way, tabling a series of highly emotive untrue allegations and initiating a disciplinary process that seemed to be unbelievably one-sided, as they knew that they had no reason to move against me on performance grounds.
The employment relationship was clearly beyond repair, but Nicola set out a solid strategy from the off to enable us to achieve our objective of obtaining a good settlement - including defending some crucial financial elements - and a clean reference. Nothing was too much trouble for Nicola, including coming back to work early after Christmas when my employer waited until after the Christmas shutdown to instigate disciplinary proceedings in an attempt to force me into a corner."
Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry that you were disappointed by the fixed fee advice offer that we made. Many of our clients find this fixed fee service very useful as they gain a great deal of insight about tactics, case value and next steps.
It is appreciated that this wasn’t for you, if you would like to give us another try - do drop me a line directly and we will arrange a consultation call.
"From the outset, Nicola was very understanding and sympathetic of my situation. She was hugely supportive throughout the whole process and made it as simple and straight forward as it could be. Nicola had a great balance of being incredibly professional and robust, at the same time as being very approachable and personable.
I would not hesitate instructing Nicola again and I would be happy to recommend her to others."
"I worked with Lorna Valcin where she was instrumental in navigating through a very turbulent time with my employer, one of which I had never experienced, nor would look to anytime in future. Lorna’s advice, guidance and expertise in professional manner was explained in a simplistic manner to allow a swift exit from my employment. Great work Lorna and I can fully recommend her services in Employment Law."
"Nicola from Monaco Solicitors was so professional from the second she picked up my enquiry email to the point I reached my settlement. Incredibly helpful, full of great advice and always quick to respond to calls or emails. Could not have been happier."
"Received great support from Dippalli with my case.
She was very knowledgeable, professional and always willing to clarify any doubt I had. She was very responsive over e-mails and phone calls throughout whole process.
I would highly recommend Dippalli and thank her once more for her excellent support."
"With exceptional online resources, I felt comfortable to contact Monaco Solicitors for a free initial conversation. Nicola responded promptly and gave me experienced, understanding and pragmatic advice. I instructed Nicola to negotiate my settlement agreement to conclusion. She was responsive and she represented my interests to the full. I have no hesitation in recommending Nicola to anyone who finds themselves in this challenging situation."
"I contacted Monaco Solicitors after reading their reviews on line as I was not satisfied with my previous solicitor. I had a very positive impression from my initial call and subsequently when I spoke with Chris Hogg.
I was impressed how quickly Chris grasped the situation I was in (unfair treatment by my employer). I found him knowledgeable and a good advisor. Having listened to me and to what I wished to achieve, Chris supported me all the way through to reach the desired outcome and even more... Our communication by email and over the phone was punctual, clear, and very focus. The fact that it was not a local firm was not a problem at all.
I would recommend Chris to anyone asking me for a reliable solicitor.
A big thank you to you Chris."
"Soon after applying for a flexible working request due to childcare needs, I was taken into a meeting where I was told my performance was not up to the mark and was being offered a settlement. I was given only 5 days to consider and not the ACAS recommended 10 days. I was in a panic and couldn’t find a solicitor who was willing to give me advice without charging me £500 upwards for advice. I found Nicola by chance and from the moment we talked I knew she was different and after she listened to everything I had to say she offered to do all the negotiations and communications with my employer and would only take 20% of above what had already been offered. It was a huge relief for me and during the negotiations the other side denied that I had been approached due to performance related issues and claimed it was due to future redundancy. Nicola helped me keep things in perspective, as one can tend to get emotional and bitter and also kept me realistic whilst reassuring me the whole time. She was quick and responsive and even talked and emailed me in the night in order to meet the deadlines. She helped me get more then double the original offer and helped wrap things up for me without me to ever having to go and face the bullies ever again. Thank you Nicola and I would highly recommend her if you come across bullies at your workplace like I did."
"I am so grateful to Nicola for helping resolve my situation. I felt assured from the very first moment we first spoke through to the conclusion that I had the finest advice, support and guidance. She guided me through the entire journey and I cannot thank her and the team at Monaco Solicitors enough for helping me. A big thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me reach closure."
"Harriet is an amazing talent. She is fast, effective and provides sound counsel. She is an innate problem solver and will do what it takes to drive matters to resolution. Most importantly, she felt like an advocate for me and someone I could rely on."
"Was very disappointed today, when I wanted Monaco solicitors to represent me in a comcare claim and was told they wouldn’t be able to cause is wasn’t viable to do so. Very poor service and not helpful at all."
We are sorry that we were not able to assist you with your case.
If you would like to discuss the specific reasons why we were not able to assist, do feel free to write to us directly so that we can explore this further.
As a firm we specialise in offering advice and support to employees in disputes with their employers. We are not familiar with the type of work you describe in your review.
During our initial consultation, our aim is to offer advice on next steps, potential value of the case and our fees for any work. In doing so we will often discuss the cost/benefit of any future steps - there are some cases where the legal fee may outweigh the case value and we are duty bound to highlight this at the very first opportunity.
"Approached Monaco regarding an employment matter to reach a settlement. However, disappointed with the service. No assistance offered. Gives an impression Monaco like many other Employment solicitors play very safe and only take up easy and straight forward cases and do not want to venture out of comfort zone to take up challenging Employment issues. Got a poor impression that they were only looking for how much money they could make."
I have noted your feedback and I am sorry that you were disappointed that Monaco Solicitors could not assist you on this occasion. I understand that you made contact through our “Contact Us” form and provided some very limited information about your employment situation. We wrote to you to inform you that we would not be able to assist on this occasion.
We try to assist as many people as we possibly can. We offer free online resources and subject to the availability of our experienced solicitors, we offer a free 15 minute consultation.
"Free consultation call to review if a situation was fair. Solicitor I spoke to was knowledgeable, friendly and very willing to help even though in this case, there was no requirement for further action. I would feel very confident to use Monaco again in the future if the need arises."
"I am very happy to recommend Monaco Solicitors, and in particular Will Burrows, for providing very clear, frank and professional advice which proved to be very helpful in achieving an improved outcome."
