I didn't know Monaco solicitors before this encounter so I did call around to four other companies before selecting Monaco and I asked the same questions 1) is the offer fair 2) should I ask for more. The answers I got elsewhere were 1) Yes 2) our hourly rate is xxx if you want to ask for more from your employer you will be charged between 6 hours and 10 hours depending on the work requested. They then asked my details so they could run "conflict of interest" check. At the end of my research it just felt that the competitors were only interested in a basic fee and that our interests were not aligned.
So I activated Nicola at Monaco and the fee charged was appropriate to the end result and as it turned out 1) the offer wasn't fair 2) yes I should ask for more.

"First of all, there website is very informative and reassuring - 5 stars for that. However, after that - well, how would you rate a company that offers to respond to an online query within an hour (which means an automated email and nothing else) and then still no response after two phone calls?
ACAS recommends giving an employee 10 calendar days to respond to a settlement offer. I finally received an email from Monaco just before 6pm 11 days after the meeting I had asked them to support me with.
Don't judge them by their website, but on their actions."

"I got in touch with Monaco in my attempts to resolve a dispute with my employer, and to seek a settlement agreement, as I was being treated very unfairly by my employer. My employer initially agreed to discuss settlement, and then changed their minds. This lead to a very protracted situation, which lasted almost a year, where they continued to treat me poorly, refusing to accept their shortcomings and failings, instead seeking to find ways to encourage me to resign. In this situation, it would have been very easy for me to give up, under the pressure of being encouraged by my employer to believe that I was at fault. Even though there was no sign, or guarantee of a settlement over an 11 month period, my solicitor Nicola continued to encourage and support me, and gave me the huge confidence I need to know that what I believed in and was fighting for was right. Without this, I may well have given up on the case, under the pressure of bullying from my employer. Finally, once my case was escalated up the management chain, my employer accepted that settlement was the only option, their approach to me changed completely, and this was where Nicola came into her own, achieving a better settlement than I was expecting, and concluding events swiftly, and with minimal personal disruption. "Soon after applying for a flexible working request due to childcare needs, I was taken into a meeting where I was told my performance was not up to the mark and was being offered a settlement. I was given only 5 days to consider and not the ACAS recommended 10 days. I was in a panic and couldn’t find a solicitor who was willing to give me advice without charging me £500 upwards for advice. I found Nicola by chance and from the moment we talked I knew she was different and after she listened to everything I had to say she offered to do all the negotiations and communications with my employer and would only take 20% of above what had already been offered.
