“The Japanese course I did does not teach you to the proper proficiency Level as required by the JPLT standard. The teacher did not teach very well here examples were not clear to understand and she is not qualified to the Japanese Language teacher proficiency. There was cases when I said things in Japanese having been to their country and she did not know what it was. if you want to learn Japanese and get properly tested and certified I would recommend the JLPT and for conversational Japanese learn from text like Japanese for busy people or Minna nihongo or get an online tutor its costs less money and you get a meaningful qualification. This course there are no tests they do not care if you give wrong answers or you do not understand what the teacher says and you spending over 2500 GBP where you can learn and get qualified for less than this.”

We are very sorry to read your review and to find that this has been your experience. We understand that you enrolled on our Japanese Beginner 1 course in Holborn in January 2017 and booked a second course, Japanese Beginner 2 in May, with the same teacher. We requested feedback at the end of the first lesson and you replied, “The lesson was very good [teacher's name] was very good, helpful and nice and my new student friends.” We did not receive any other feedback from you. We would like to respond to all of the points you have raised: All of our teachers are thoroughly vetted and are all qualified with the requiste experience. We are sorry you feel your teacher was not qualified, but we can assure you that all our teachers have the necessary qualifications to teacher their language. We know that there can sometimes be language barriers when learning a new language, especially at beginner level. There may be difficulties with differences in accent or regional vocabulary when speaking to native speakers. As your review suggests we do indeed use 'Japanese for Busy People' as our core course book for our evening courses. We are glad that you recommend the book that we use in our courses. We do not say anywhere that we provide an official qualification or formal test at the end of our course. Our courses are aimed at those wanting to improve their conversational skills and communication skills. If an academic or formal qualification is required we can advise and recommend the best exam and exam preparation courses to take. The cost of our evening courses is £180 - £240 depending on the language and location. We are very sorry that you had a negative experience with Cactus. We are always looking to improve our services and courses and for that reason have a complaints procedure in place and ask for feedback at various stages of the course. It's unfortunate that your disatisfaction with the course was not highlighted earlier as we would have liked to have had the opportunity to make the necessary changes or compensate you accordingly.
