I don't normally leave reviews but feel the need. 26th Jan I order 4 tyres for my X5. I was emailed a few days latter via email to be told they only had 2 of the tyres I wanted. I replied to the email with no reply from Halfords. Phone them to get a South African call centre and was told they didn't have the Tyres. The order was cancelled on The 29th January in the morning. Thant afternoon they then took £345 for tyres they didn't have on a cancelled order. I have raised a case with Paypal and today I used a phone number given to me front a Halford Garage to complain only to get the same person in South Africa I spoke to on the 29th Jan.

I booked a battery replacement for my Mercedes C-class. The fitter came within the time slot but in a National Tyre van, unmarked on one side. I did not get a Halfords own-brand start & stop 80aH battery, as he told me they were having supply difficulties, but an 82aH Exide one. I wasn't bothered by that, as I know my battery brands. He struggled to put back the lower battery holding clamp, which was hard to access - that was the fault of Mercedes's bad design. Then the car would not start, showing error codes which were clearly wrong. He said he had no diagnostic equipment, told me to call Halfords - and drove off. I called and a very friendly lady organised a follow-up warranty visit 2 days later. She seemed to expect this kind of call and waived the charge for this second visit. The technician (who came in an unmarked van) plugged in his diagnostics equipment, cleared up error codes, and the he car started again. But he could not solve an error code about the active bonnet system (pedestrian protection in case of a collision). After he had gone, I found a video on YouTube of an Indian technician fixing that problem - caused by a broken cable connexion. So I went and looked, and found that the original fitter had accidentally disconnected a connector in his struggle with the retaining bracket. I reconnected that and all was well. Otherwise I would, at the 2nd technician's suggestion, have had to take the car to a garage (my independent Mercedes specialist), and send the bill to Halfords, if the garage determined that the problem had been caused by them. All inconvenient. I chose Halfords because of the convenience of fitting at my home, and the price, which was indeed competitive. Their technicians were cheerful and friendly but they seemed to lack the training and (in the case of the first one) the equipment do this kind of job - which is hardly a complicated one. A pity, as I am a strong supporter of the independent automotive aftermarket and this is just the sort of thing a well-resourced service chain should be able to do. It was fortunate that I know my way around cars at least a little bit.

Reading/ tilehurst garage Went to this garage to have 2 tyres replaced and the tracking done. It took 3 days to get my car back and they didn’t even get the tracking done. So dropped the car off on a Tuesday morning at 7.45 got a call about lunchtime saying i needed 2 new tyres and it was too late to get them delivered today so would have to wait until tomorrow.now I’m self employed I don’t get paid for days off. The next day I waited for a update until lunchtime and phoned them apparently they couldn’t get the locking wheel nut undone and they have to get someone in to do this as they can’t do it and it won’t be until the next day another day off I’m fuming by now. The next day waited for an update and phoned them again about lunchtime and told there just finished another job and I’m next so should be done in a couple of hours I waited nothing so after 3 hours I walked down there which is 2 miles away and it still wasn’t ready. I waited for at least half an hour finally i was told they had done the tyres but haven’t done the tracking. The reason the car was in the garage was the tyres were completely bold on the outside because the tracking was out. Now I’m really angry after a lot of shouting they booked me in for the Saturday at 12.30 and are going to do it for free. So take the car home in the dark and drive the 45 miles to work the next day in the dark by the time I get there it’s light I have a look at the wheels and there’s a nut missing from each tyre I could not believe that they didn’t replace the nuts or even tell me. Go down there Saturday and they say that they can’t do it as the ramp isn’t free if you leave it with them they will try and get it done but no guarantee. That was the last straw phoned there complaints department and waiting for them to get back to me but I’m not holding my breath. I am a returning customer and I have been very happy with the service I received before but this time has been the worst experience I’ve ever had. Absolutely shocking. My wife’s car was in a different garage and she mentioned my experience to them and he said they were getting a lot of Halfords customers in after they had bad experiences. That pretty much sums it up Here’s my case number from customer service 22195898 spoke to them a couple of days ago. Said there get back to me, still waiting! Update Had communication with customer service via emails and eventually got the car booked in at a different Halfords garage in Reading had a appointment made by customer service for 11.30 turn up and are told they could not do but might have time if I leave the car. I told customer service l can’t leave the car. Another complete balls up this time customer service. Date of experience: 13 January 2024

Customer Services are weak and feeble. Also l noticed that when ring up, you end up speaking to an impatient stroppy foreigner who can't speak English properly. English people don't exist. Very annoying and more annoying than annoying! If your really into annoying, just give em a ring. But try not to ring their necks. OR you can punch em on the nose, and take off all their clothes. Hey, l can feel a idiotic poem developing. AMEN!!!!! 🤔🧐🤨

It's 50/50 when you ring up. First person was great, but second person was dreadful. For this reason l chose to take my business elsewhere. Complete waste of time. These people couldn't organise a tea party for chimpanzees. 🐒👎🐒👎🐒👎🐒👎🐒👎🐒

i would give no stars if possible, booked in my company van a in formed the shop at Halfords Openshaw that it needed new disk and pads both front and back. They had the van all day and never called to say the van was ready. i tried calling no answer so i visited the shop only to be told it needed new pads and disk and it would not be ready until the next day!!! The guy was rude when i questioned him why he had not ordered the parts for the day i had booked it in and he replied you are not a mechanic are you! so i replied no but i am also not a idiot. i will never use them again this is the second time this has happed to me one being a service which the reply to why have you not carried out the service was we was to busy to carry out the service. A WASTE OF SPACE DO NOT USE THESE GUYS. I am now going to make a complaint to Halfords and my company about the service not prvided by Halfords.

6/12/23 Had to bite the bullet and get a MOT from these guys again I thought the last time was just them being expensive they didint really do anything else wrong But after the mot on the 6th of December I'm never going back A week before the mot I had the car pre checked and had a " mock" mot test done at it passed on everything it was just a little low on coolant So I topped it up Went in for the mot test And apparently failed on brake lagging I found this strange as the car was tested on a rolling road the brakes were out by 10% but apparently that's fine aslong as it's not 30% as I've been told So I took the car back into the garage it was originally at It was tested again Same results about 10% on the brakes Took it into a different garage and paid them to check it Same results again I found this weird I didint want to pay for another mot so I stuck with halfords Brought the car back into halfords to be told its the same problem I explained to the guy that it can't be theirs literally nothing wrong with the brakes it's been tested on 2 different rolling roads They told me it could be the abs And the brake fluid looks a tad dark I was that frustrated that i decided to just get it tested elsewhere and hey presto it passed A couple of days later I gave the abs a clean and changed the brake fluid So the car was still the same as it was when halfords had It the only difference was a cleaner looking abs and fluid I made a complaint to halfords customer service and asked for my money back I was contacted by the guy that did the mot a few days later And he said if I bring it back in let him test the brake lag and if its fixed then he will give me my money back I took it in the next day And weirdly enough the car had no brake lag 🙄 so he looked under the bonnet noticed the abs was cleaned and the brake fluid was changed So he said because you've done that you've probably fixed the problem so I'll have to talk to my manager to see if they will give you your money back It's now the 6th of January i still haven't recieved any communication about this refund Halfords are con artists I'm never returning to the auto centre or the shops Honestly wouldn't trust these cowboys 14/12/21 went in for a MOT the price for the MOT is what you would expect so no problems there the problem i had is the price they charged me for 3 indicator bulbs because thats what failed my MOT they came up to £57 dont get me wrong they did tell me i can go elsewhere to get it done but i called up hundreds of places and no one could get me in to fit the lights and also i couldent drive around looking for a garage with no MOT so i was forced to pay that price the next day i called up the same places i tried yesterday to ask out of curiosity how much it would cost to fit 3 bulbs and all of them was between £10-£15 because its such a quick job the only reason why i gave halfords 2 stars is because they got me in for a MOT the same day i booked it thats honestly the only good thing i can say about the place

Bought a Carrera bike at Halfords 6 months ago. I go on it twice a week mostly on roads and cycle paths. Within that time, Ive had to take it back 3 times. Once for a air puncture and twice for a snapped chain. None of this included in the warranty and they insinuate I should have bought the repair care package so I would have got all that included. What I find incredibly cheeky though is that when they repaired it the first time they vaguely alluded to the gear mechanic not being aligned with the chain (after they fixed it) and that has led to it snapping off again. Then they try and upsell you to buy chain cleaners/degreasers to get more money out of you and to excuse the faults I've been getting but shouldnt have happened. Definitely going somewhere else if it should happen (which I'm expecting it to).

I booked a tyre replacement on 21 December for home fitting on 23 December and received a confirmation email. 23 December - no fitter arrived 24 December - called and was told the appointment was cancelled by Halfords - they apologised that I hadn't been told and was referred for a refund 27 December - called and spoke to the refunds team, they said they'd put a call through, someone would be in touch that afternoon....no call came through 28 December - called again, advised there was no record of my previous calls and a case was raised - advised it would take up to 72 hours to respond 3 January - still no contact. Called and was advised there was no progress but they would escalate my case. I asked to speak to a manager, they were busy but confirmed my number and was advised a manager would call me back. Still no call! And still no refund - I'm due over £180 back!

The worst place ever for mechanics The worst place ever for mechanics. AVOID. They say you have free MOT with a membership and when you go there, they try create problems and silly things in your car and will charge you a fortune with stupid bills, so you end up paying so much morre than if you didn't have a membership or went to a different mechanic, the store staff are ok, but The garage staff is really rude and without experience and they look as if they hate their own jobs for some reason. Go to any other mechanics other than Halfords 👎👎 Halfords autocentre Saughall Road Chester , CH1 5EY👎👎

Went yesterday as my battery charging light came on, they fitted a new battery and Zi asked if the alternator was ok, chappy tested it whilst I turned the head lights and heater on , yes all ok. The charging light was still on but he said it would need resetting to remove the old fault code. Drove off and broke down 40 mins later when the new battery ran flat, had to wait 2 hours in the cold for the AA, after a quick look he pulled out a rubber belt and said if had broke, no way the alternator was working. Poor advice and service not happy at all

Visited the Windmill Road store to order a top box the member of staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and he explained everything with no sense of rush! Absolutely outstanding service. Puts most retail to shame!

Did not receive good acknowledgement of warranty issue. However after pressing they did agree to the repair. Asked for prepaid service to be carried out but did not do this after specifically asking for this to be written down. Unable to contact depot to arrange pre paid service by phone Told to visit another depot direct by visiting as telephone booking of pre paid service not possible.

Quick and easy battery replacement which I was happy to pay £27 for because the new battery needed to be coded to the car. Upselling the motoring club, with its upfront saving for an ongoing monthly fee, afterwards was tedious. It didn’t make sense for me to take this up and I had ‘Halfords’ maths rammed down my throat for 2 mins as a consequence. No thank you. Would have been 5 stars if they just accepted my answer the first time.

Halfords offers be aware. I was looking to purchase tyre. Halfords had a 10% offer on some of the brands at the time if you bought 2 tyres. However i wanted budget tyres they didn't have 10% on these i thought I'd wait until i get paid, anyway they put 10% on these as well but they work out more expensive now so please don't be fooled by these offers

DO NOT ORDER A BIKE ONLINE THEY ARE DEATH TRAPS. Recently spent £960 on a bike. Paid extra to have delivered built and it came as bike parts in a box. No paperwork of guarantee or parts checked etc. This was a birthday present but it gets worse! We called to be advised someone would call back with a refund for the build that didn't happen and options. Never happened. Still not the worst part! We built the bike ourselves according to the instructions. My son then proceeded to ride to the local bike club and had the bike checked out by qualified technicians... now it gets bad! The handlebars were waiting to come apart. The tyres were barely pumped up. Breaks weren't responding. Gears bent and forks totally faulty! Basically had he jumped a kerb (the minimum its performance is built for) he'd be seriously injured if not dead! We took to Halfords store where the staff were very good. Sorted the bike out and were equally appalled at the 'death trap' we had paid almost a grand for! Proceeded to take it up with head office where my son's safety and their failures they valued at £50 compensation!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say we are now seeking legal advice. This cannot happen to another person!

Went into the Haverfordwest branch, the sales assistant was good and I agreed to order the recommended Sat nav online and a slot for fitting it...what a joke, the website is a nightmare, kept stating that the item was not available in my nearest store, nearest store available was 2 hours by road, could not contact the store directly, eventually had a phone call which ended with the Halfords person agreeing that I should go back to the Haverfordwest store buy a sat nav there not have it fitted but to run it from the cigarette lighter socket....rubbish service and a complete waste of time.
