One of the most expensive (over 47% increase in the policy cost) when any information needs amending or adjusting and one of the most expensive for cancelling the policy (the cost became so prohibitive that had to be cancelled) £120 for cancelling within the first 14 days plus administration cost plus the cost of the insurance days used.

wish I'd read these reviews before starting the policy, cancelling after just six days, annoying they'll be charging cancelling fees for the privilege of experiencing such a sloppy business. Co-Op - please read and address these issues, you're embarrassing the brand. Your contractor installing dashboard boxes is useless - sends emails asking to confirm installation date, but despite sending 3 confirmations to supplied email address as request kept coming, installation was cancelled. Why not just email a link that can be clicked to confirm like every other website does ? And don't ask to call your number, only to be told "we're really busy, call back later" as the default message... Then all the requirements to send documents - been insuring cars for 30 years, no other company requires this. There are now online databases to get licence and insurance details, you don't need the rigmarole of 'log in to gov.uk, request, code, print pdf, send image'. Copy of statements to confirm address ? what's that all about, even banks have stopped that. Feels like this operation has been set up by amatuers, wanting a piece of the lucrative young persons car insurance pie. Be careful...

I insured my car with this company for three years. Not once had a reduction in cost, fitted a smart box tracker to my near new car purchased last year and damaged the fuse board on the car beyond repair. Left me with no heating in the middle of winter, unable to drive car and a £2000 bill from the garage to fix all of the damage caused by the engineer sent to fit the box by the co-operative. Nothing done to rectify this and constantly contradicted and questioned on information i was given by the garage, then refused to speak to them full stop. Ended the saga with a condescending phone call from the rudest woman i have ever encountered telling me that despite the thousands of pounds that i paid them in the past to ensure with them "there is nothing further we can do and you will just have to deal with the cost yourself as it is not our problem" DO NOT INSURE WITH THE CO-OPERATIVE!!

the Customer service was awful I tried calling them and it took me ages to get through the menu when I called up and then when I finally got to the stage where it would connect me they hung up and said they were closed

The staff taking my insurance information clearly didn't know what they were doing. I was on the phone for nearly an hour trying to sort insurance out. After speaking to a second member of staff it was apparent they knew less than the first person. I ended the call. phoned another company and was sorted in under 15 minutes. Very poor service.

I purchased this insurance for myself and 18 year old son. I was sceptical after reading some reviews but can I take a minute to inform yous. We have been insured for 6 months now and already had a reduction to the policy. It’s my son that drives the most and he is in late at the weekend but earlier through the week and his scores are really good on the app. As long as your sensible this is a great insurance company and I would highly recommend it.

I was told that I urgently had to get a smartbox installed even before the documents were uploaded. I did so and a month later they cancelled my insurance with one letter arriving two days before and was told that I had a speeding ticket which I had genuinely forgotten about. I thought fair enough and was prepared to pay more but was told no and they then said that they would charge 120 for cancellation and 90 for removal of smart box. I tried to complain but got nowhere. I also tried to change it to my husband's name as his name on log book but this was unacceptable and was told that I would need to pay all the money regardless of whether he took out policy or not. Funny thing is that took like an hour to get an email to complain - they didn't want me to complain - wanted their own procedures - when I finally did I was told that if I send an email I have to also let them know. Worse car insurance experience - overcomplicated, money grabby and unhelpful.

Constantly threatening to cancel policy if correct documents are not uploaded. I'm sorry but I've got better things to do than an insurance company's legwork. If it wasn't for the cost implications I would cancel the policy. Do not touch them it's more hassle than it's worth. My 17 yr old daughter does not have household bills as proof of address as I imagine most teenagers don't, I scanned her passport in to prove she's a real person but this is not good enough, really! Also not fussed on learner drivers having a black box, they're are learning and are prone to mistakes and shouldn't be penalised for them, surely the box should be fitted when they're set free and responsible for their own driving standards. Rant over, I'm off to talk to Aviva!

The lack of communication has been absolutely atrocious. I made a claim and pretty much from day one was having to chase up the company that hit my car myself. The incident happened in November and it has been resolved in the last week or so, in that time period co-op have made ONE call to the company that hit my car to try and chase a response and sent several letters. I have called the company on numerous occasions chasing insurance details, only in the last couple of weeks having any luck in them admitting liability for the accident. I called co-op to inform them of this only to be told they were already aware of this a number of weeks ago, but no one bothered to inform me, so essentially I’ve wasted my own time chasing for something that had already been communicated to my insurer. On that same phone that I had been informed that the company had admitted liability, I was then told that the garage would now be informed that I did not need to pay the excess, and essentially if I hadn’t have called them I still would’ve liable for the excess (my phone call prompted the garage to be informed). Then as the cherry on top of the cake, I was provided with a courtesy car whilst my car was being repaired, but when the courtesy car was collected it was noted that there was a chip in the windscreen, I was then on the spot told to call co-op who then put me through to a company they refer to for windscreen repairs and I booked an appointment that was supposed to be carried out today. I have in the last two hours received a call from the company carrying out the windscreen repairs saying they can not locate the vehicle at the address that was provided (the garage the car was going back to). So I then had to contact the garage only to be told that the car had been given to someone else for a further week as a courtesy car therefore risking the chip to crack, implicating further costs for me; what an absolute joke. There is no way on earth I will be continuing my insurance with this diabolical company and the lack of communication they provide. I am hugely annoyed and frustrated at the lack of communication going on here and that I have had to chase up repairs for a car that I do not own (in regard to the courtesy car)... NOT HAPPY.

Be very carefull if you insure with Coop young driver. Ive just had my policy cancelled after being charged for a black box being fitted. there is virtually no discrepancies allowed when you provide your driver information. simply not worth the hassle and will cost you more in the long run

I downloaded my documents but was not told that I downloaded the incorrect document before 2 weeks later, when it was already too late. In addition to this, the installation of the smartbox got canceled right before the date. As a result of this my insurance was cancelled! I went on a competition for 6 weeks so he could not install the smartbox in that time. Even though I called them to explain the situation they canceled my insurance because the smartbox had not been fitted. Now I am struggling to find another company as I have it on my record that my insurance has been canceled.

I have taken this policy out for my son, and we have had no problems at all and cannot fault anything with the service. I have had to make contact with them on a couple of occasions as my son decided to have personalised plates fitted and the lady I spoke too sorted everything immediately with no problems or any hidden costs. This week his 3 month review came up and as he has maintained an excellent driving score has been paid back close to £200. I have to say I was sceptical about ever getting anything back when taking out the policy but the money is in his account. What a great incentive to carry on driving well!!

First of all you tried to take my monthly insurance money from my bank a day before the date that's been fixed and now you have a stupid call up line to your company where I have been trying to get in touch with for nearly 40 minutes now and there isn't a option for talking to an adviser or talking to someone about monthly payments or anything, an absolute stupid company to book your car insurance with... That's my thought about you. Literally there is no one to answer the phone so how am I supposed to talk to you lot, then when I click on an option it just hangs up, sort yourselves out, ridiculous.

My son has had a black box fitted two years ago and his renewal has just come through, he rang customer service to speak to them regarding a cheaper price he could get, they were not interested and wanted to charge him an extra £100.00 as he had changed his job, still in the automotive trade. They would not consider any discount, I have never heard of this before, obviously don't want to keep repeat custom, my advice - don't use them.

I took out a policy with co op back in June and unfortunately my car was written off, co op were great up until the point that they paid out. However, I am disgusted at their customer service. I asked them to listen to some transcripts after they lied and miss-sold to me only for them to come back and tell me that the transcripts were in their favour even though I made two separate calls which they clearly stated I was entitled to reimbursement. Co op didn’t leave notes on my account either, which means that all I am met with is rudeness. They left false information on my account which almost led to my policy being cancelled. I am now out of pocket by almost £1000 thanks to co op! Steer clear of this company.

I have had absolutely no problems with the co op young driver policy. I took it out myself when I was 17 and the price was excellent compared to other insurers. I haven’t had a driving discount and my score is mid-low, but I do drive like a bit of a nutter, sometimes 20mph in excess of the speed limit (not in residentials, calm down mothers) and have had no issues with warnings or fines from them. Only issue with the driving score is that it penalizes you for driving past 11pm. I have had a fault accident on my policy, which I admitted to fault and they handled it very quickly and with absolutely minimum intervention from me - even though I have done almost double the mileage I quoted them (didn’t expect the mileage added by having a girlfriend). I chose not to renew as I want a non black box policy for peace of mind although their renewal quote offer was excellent. I can thoroughly recommend them if you are 17.

I'm a third way through my policy currently and I have noticed that each time it comes to your 90 day black box reviews, your score goes down dramatically. The past 3 days I have driven very carefully, not breaking late or accelerating too quickly and they put my score in the section 'acceleration and breaking' as worse than how I drove before. It is obvious they want to put scores down so that they can up our policy and con us into paying more a month. When I first got the policy my insurance went down which was great but the next review they upped it even tho my score was still in the 'very good' section on my black box dashboard. I find it disqusting that they advertise it as a young drivers insurance and they simply change our scores just to con us. Most young drivers don't have the best of jobs or are students and cant afford to be messed around like most people have been with this company. Avoid at all costs.
