About Friars.co.uk:

It all started back in 1927 when William Long had the fabulous idea of opening a luxury chocolate shop in the picturesque town of Keswick, in the heart of the Lake District. He probably never dreamed it would still be in the same family nearly 100 years later.

In those early days the shop only opened during the summer months and it is believed William chose to winter in the Madeira sunshine. As you would expect the business has evolved in many ways since then, however certain principles remain since those early days.

Innovation – We were the first to make a prosecco truffle and then shortly after we followed with our fabulous gin truffle. More recently; although Easter eggs are synonymous with Easter, we decided to move away from the main stream and invented our famous hot cross bun truffle.

But all this only scratches the surface; we are also one of the first chocolate makers to start transitioning to 100% biodegrade packagingM as well as pioneering vegan milk and white chocolate...among other things.

Quality – Any new chocolate must meet certain requirements to get past our strict tasting panel. If one of the panel gives a score below 9/10 then we simply won’t offer the chocolate to our customers.

Longevity – We are immensely proud of our historic routes and in this fast moving, ever changing world, we take pride in our tradition and heritage. Our rose and violet creams are the same ones that William sold on that first day of opening, back in 1927. We have survived and prospered over the last 90 years and with the launch of our Ambleside store and an online service, we fully intend to be around for the next 100 years.

After all life is too short, so why settle for ordinary chocolate?

Sent to a friend chocolate was excellent, only reason for lower score is I was specifically wanting palm oil free and preferred fro friars on this basis after online search-wasn’t clear that only some of the items in the gift selection I chose were palm oil free

Did not arrive within the time slot as stated by Royal Mail.This means I was waiting all morning for it to arrive and it did not get delivered until the afternoon.

Chocolate cherries were lovely in the main, however four of the twenty four were dry which was a disappointment.

The chocolates were sent as a gift so I cannot possibly say how good they were or anything about the delivery ;) One thing you could work on is apply better business logic to your reviews.

Fantastic chocolate cherry liquers . Only problem is half of the 24 cherry liquers are dry with no liquer at all.

Lid and base of large chocolate box was not stuck together so chocolates had all tipped out in transit, I had to straighten out the cases and put all the chocolates back in the box

I can’t comment on the taste of Turkish delight as bought for Christmas extras hence not high or low score. But arrived in time

I received the ordered goods very promptly. They are a Christmas present, so have not been opened. There is, therefore no way in which I can comment on them. Suppliers of goods do not leave enough time beteeen delivery and product use for products to be assessed.3 stars because its neither good nor bad but it really means ‘don’t know’!

The Cherry liquors have really small shriveled-up Cherrys in them with large stones. Why don't they use larger plumper cherries with smaller stones in proportions to the flesh. The Chocolate orange slices are divine, however, overall the quality of the chocolate is nothing to write home about and I was disappointed with the peanut clusters and coconut macaroons as I had had better and cheaper. I was also disappointed with the out of stocks and was unable to buy Coffee creams

We cannot comment about the taste, as the chocolate are presents for Christmas. The size of the chocolates inside the packaging was quite disappointing for the price we paid.

I ordered over £80 of sweets to make Christmas hampers for family. The box was very heavy but had gone soft in transit, it just wasn't strong enough to hold the weight of all my products. The internal packaging was inadequate, a little bit of paper, no eco friendly bubble wrap around the brittle items. So you can imagine the condition of the Brazil nut brittle on arrival....it was bashed and broken and is totally ungiftable....so will think of alternative options in future. The large boxed items like the coconut ice and Turkish delight were safely delivered but the loose bags need to be better packaged and a mush stronger box supplier used.

Nice chocolates, but not great value in terms of quantity or size of box. I'll stick to Hotel Chocolate next time.

Received the chocolates for a gift next month, but found the box lid too slack which allowed the chocolate sprinkles to fall all over my carpet. Not impressed.

My order for my sister's birthday today was marred by the fact the liquor cherries had a leaky one when opened and had covered remainder, she did however say they were good to taste. My daughter and husband had enjoyed theirs at Easter which lead me to do same for my sister.
