About Easily Limited:

Easily.co.uk are today one of the UK’s largest domain name and web hosting companies and part of London-listed GroupNBT plc. They were actually formed on the 20th September 1999 as Easywebnames.com. The company behind them, WebConsultancy had been providing web design for two years previously and were managed by Steve Procter. Together with a group of Linux developers, the idea of a low cost domain name company grew during 1999. With domain names costing up to £100 at the time, WebConsultancy developed a business model to offer .co.uk domains for under £10 – a move that had not been seen in the UK domain name market before.

Okay, to be clear - I am an EX-CUSTOMER. After a few years of being messed about, I finally left in early 2020. For various reasons, I had cause to contact Billing at Easily. On the basis of the issues I experienced prior to my decision to leave, I wasn't hopeful of a response. In fact, I had already confirmed the address to write to using Registered Mail - so sure was I that no reply would be forthcoming. Imagine my surprise to receive a reply 54 (fifty-four) minutes later - with the info I had requested. Because I was investigating an issue, it took a short while to establish what had taken place. It has to be said that throughout, I was pleasantly surprised at the speed of response as I queried things. During my initial investigation, I had checked reviews to see if my fears of before were likely to be justified. I was quite pleased to see that Easily seemed to be improving quite markedly over how things had been only a few years previously. One of the things I noted was that the name of the person I was communicating with came up in reviews over and over - and ALWAYS (as far as I could see) in a positive manner. I was greatly assured. Anyhow, matter dealt with, and I must say, swiftly, without long silences, effectively, politely and - well, excellently! That name that kept coming up? Tracy Spencer. The positive reviews I spotted weren't misleading! Upshot is that when my current hosting/email package (not with Easily) expires in early 2022, I shall definitely be including Easily as a possibility. I had been with them from around 1999 (the year, I think, when they were founded?) and I had nothing but praise for them - until the 24-36 months prior to my leaving in early 2020. Had any of my experiences during that time been dealt with as this time by Tracy, then I may well have been writing this review as a current customer. As it is, if things continue to head in the right direction (as it seems), then I could very well return in 2022!

Thankfully, we only use Easily as a domain Registrar, nothing else anymore. Last year, when BT had a major outage/power failure in one of their data centres, we lost all DNS because both of easily's two name servers (one of which, according to its reverse DNS name, was also performing SMTP duties) weren't only in the same building, but behind the same router (as tested by tracert). How they ever thought this was a good idea, I'll never know - we never got an explanation out of them. We lost email and web for the best part of a day. We moved all of our DNS to Google CloudDNS (great service, very resilient and very cheap) so that issue was sorted. Yesterday, I was looking at our DNS service, and saw that only two of the 4 name servers for each of our domains (we have 18, but two are particularly important) only had two name servers on the root DNS servers, even though 4 are specified on Easily's DNS control panel. I asked them to fix this, and they uploaded the name servers for one domain (both have different name servers) onto both domains on the root servers. Luckily I tested this as soon as they said they had done it! Long wait on the phone later, and they fixed it, but no clear explanation of how such as simple task could have gone so wrong. Their web site tools are old and clunky. Bits don't work (you can add up to 8 name servers for a domain, but only 2 get used). Their infrastructure is fragile and at risk of failure. They are not a big company, yet it takes for ever to get through on the phone. It's not my decision to keep them even just as a domain registrar, but if it was, I'd have been gone a long time ago.
