The trip was amazing from start to finish, everything was taken care of for us from transport to food to making sure we didn't miss the northern lights. I'd like to say a huge thank you to Sigga and Magnus who were superb... our trip thru the glaciers was breathtaking and will certainly be at the top of my places visited list for quite some time.. Sigga made us feel incredibly welcome and that nothing was to much trouble (she also cooked us a lovely meal on the first night) The cabin was superb, isolated but very well stocked and finished to a high standard... The views thru the enormous windows never got old We went wanting to see the Northern lights which we were lucky to do so but came away realising Iceland has a lot more to offer and if possible I would love to revisit... I would most definitely use Weekend a la Carte and South Coast Adventures again.

I had the most amazing time at the Abisko Mountain Lodge. The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble, the food is out of this world which is saying something as I’m quite a fussy eater. Martina with the snowmobiles was so patient with my nerves and really informative, it made the morning that I was dreading truly enjoyable. Miguel and the other photographer (I’m useless with names) were so helpful and knowledgeable about the Aurora, I have photos I never dreamed I could take. Last but not least William, who was in charge of the huskies and seemed to spend the rest of his time running us around. He was incredibly thoughtful and looked after our comfort and wishes even though it was a big inconvenience to him.

Generally, we are very happy with our Northern Lights holiday and particularly enjoyed the guided walk, photographic evening and sledging with the Huskies. We were blessed with good weather and The Northern Lights were very active which was marvellous. The Mountain Lodge suited us very well and the standard of the food is certainly impressive. The staff were also excellent in every respect and my only comments are that the rooms in the lodge are certainly pretty small, particularly when full of Arctic gear as well as two people and luggage. Also, as a very small person, I found the Arctic gear daunting both to wear and to get on and off. Things would have been helped by having shorter length trousers and smaller gloves which I'm sure must come in sizes for teens which would have been more user friendly. I certainly wasn't cold though, so no complaints there! On a purely personal level, the Ice Hotel left us cold (sorry) though we spoke to several people who were paying to stay there that night and looking forward to it. I can only wonder why. I was also somewhat underwhelmed by the night trip to the Ice Station which was nothing like I'd imagined from the description and being invited to lie on the snow on a reindeer skin when we declined to go on the walk ( we'd already been on the guided one that morning) didn't seem much of a plan while we waited for the diners to finish their meal. The cable car may have the distinction of being the oldest in Europe, but I think you should point out that it's open and possibly not for persons of a nervous disposition. I have to say I was very glad it was dark! Although I was slightly apprehensive that this holiday would be considerably out of my comfort zone, I found that I enjoyed the activities and ambience far more than I was anticipating. The Mountain Lodge is cosy but well arranged for socialising or finding a quiet corner and we were most impressed by the catering and staff. John hates hotels but was very comfortable there which is quite an accolade from him. The trip was easy to arrange as was directly contacting Weekend a la Carte with any queries which always gets my vote. Thank you for good service and a holiday to remember. I have passed your details on several times already.

Kevin and the team were very helpful and informative right from my first enquiry to the final details arriving before departure. It took the worry out of doing activities in an environment that was so different to our previous experiences. And what an experience it was. Nice one Kevin! The Ice Hotel was a unique experience, like staying in an art gallery. The ice sculptures were stunning. Being a guest meant that we could access the cold areas when it was quiet and so appreciate the skills of the artists to our hearts content. The colours both inside and outside made for a magical experience. With the pre- booked activities, it was certainly 'all go.' Early mornings and late nights were necessary to make the best of the experience. The Ice Hotel restaurant was great for breakfast and dinner with a good choice of well prepared and presented local food. The Old Homestead restaurant was not so good. In fact we'd go so far as to say that, it wasn't worth the nearly 1km walk for average food and poor service. (This was the only negative part of our wonderful experience). The night we spent in an art suite was surprisingly comfortable. The advice given and the lovely warm sleeping bag provided meant that we slept remarkably well. We survived. Sadly, we forgot to pick up our diploma to show that we had in fact survived, but we have the memory etched in our minds. The dog sledding adventure was so lovely. The care given to the dogs was commendable, they were well trained and friendly. The small number of guests (there were only 8 of us) made for a better experience. The instruction given to us on how to drive the dogs was thorough and gave us confidence. Driving a team of dogs over a frozen lake really was a 'WOW' experience. (Don't forget to take some video when you're the passenger to record both the dogs running and the beautiful landscape.) The welfare of the dogs was clearly a priority, to the point that we had to give the dogs a 'warm down' massage on our return to the kennel. It provided some lovely photo opportunities. I must admit that the thought of snowmobiling was leaving us a little anxious. We needn't have been. We were well kitted out and given instructions on how to operate the snowmobile and what go do to keep safe. Being the only guests on that day, we had the guide to ourselves. It was an exciting adventure through woodland, over a frozen lake and up and down a hill. Sadly, the misty weather on that day meant we didn't get to see the views from the top of the hill. Abisko Mountain Lodge was a real gem of a place; warm, cosy and with very welcoming staff. Our double superior room was a good size and well fitted out. We were provided with great quality outdoor equipment which kept us warm and dry. The food, especially at dinner, was outstanding. Reindeer, slow roast Moose, Arctic Char, local cheese and Cloudberries can all be recommended. The trip to Abisko Sky Station was excellent. The chairlift to the top of the mountain was exciting. It being dark, you get to appreciate the lights in the valley below and the flashing lights on the other chairs as you ascend and descend the mountain. Once at the top, we attended the informative talk by our guide about the Aurora. Having stood around for a while in the snow, we were suddenly rewarded by the green glow which signalled the arrival of the Aurora. It was well worth the wait in the snow and the cold. The train trip to Narvik gave us a chance to enjoy stunning scenery whilst having bit of a well earned rest. They really were magnificent views and our first glimpse of a fjord was exciting. We visited Narvik on a Sunday, and apart from the excellent museum and cafe, there wasn't much else open. I'm sure the point of this trip is the train journey which, was good. With time being limit in Narvik, don't expect to do much there. Our last night was spent on the wilderness photography trip. Small numbers meant that we got personal attention and tuition. Being photographic novices, we were keen to learn some new skills. We enjoyed a couple of hours learning how to take creative night shots. Sadly, we didn't get to see and photograph the northern lights before our trip ended, we thought, a little early. We did get to see the northern lights again later that night by walking up the tracks at the back of the Mountain Lodge. Our Weekend a la carte Aurora Nights adventure was coming to an end! The transfer back to the airport was well organised, as was the whole trip. In fact we had a great trip with a range of exciting experiences without any hassle. Thank you Kevin and the team at Weekend a la carte for a first class experience.

We had a very enjoyable holiday, it was well organised. The hotel was good, the food was first class, all the activities were very enjoyable. All the staff were very friendly, helpful, cheery, making our stay even better. The warm clothing that was provided was very comfortable. I'd recommend Abisko as a place to visit in pursuit of the Aurora.

Swapping the self drive option for collection from the airport and 3 days of South Coast Adventures superjeep tours was a brilliant solution - we went to places we could never have gone on our own, did really exciting things and enjoyed being with really interesting and knowledgeable guides (for 2 of the 3 trips ) The Ranga hotel was ok, although we found the food expensive for what it was. We liked the Silica Hotel, with its delightfully quiet small private lagoon.

This was a fantastic trip ! It way exceeded our expectations and was indeed magical. The folk at the Mattarahkla lodge made our stay as they did everything for us. The food and trips were well planned and we has such a good time. We even got to see the lights on our first or second night but these were the bonus on top of every other wonderful experience. The short break we went on to Sweden was initially disrupted by an airline strike but the sterling efforts of Kevin and the staff at Weekend A La Carte meant the we still made it to the arctic circle for what can only be described as a fabulous holiday. The lodges we stayed at were fabulous, the guides for the various events were genuninely nice people and made the experiences a fantastic way to see the region and take part in snowmobiling, husky dog sledging and many other events. To top it all off we got some fantastic displays of the northern lights and captured some amazing pictures thanks to the excellent camera course arranged as part of the tour. Would I go again? - Most definitely. Would I go again with Weekend A La Carte? - Not a moments hestiation in saying yes.
