Forced to start buying fish online (no pun intended) I decided to try a couple of suppliers to compare. Surprisingly, the company based in my own county, Hamiltons Devon, was poorer. A cardboard box with loose wool insulation and ice packs, environmentally friendly as it may be, was inadequate for the frozen fish which were defrosted on arrival and barely adequate for the fresh fish in the box which were further protected by the frozen inclusion. By contrast, the company in Middlesex supplying my other order, which was largely frozen, used a sealed polystyrene container with ice packs, contained within a further cardboard box. Their frozen fish showed no signs of defrosting whatsoever.
