The course could definitely benefit from a clearer structure i.e. start with the definition of temp works followed by the role and responsibilities of the TWC and legislation, followed by lots of examples of temp works from different fields of construction. Refurbishment of existing buildings (façade retention, needling and propping, top down basement, etc.) was hardly mentioned. More time cold have been spent on scaffolds, complex designed schemes, the need and ways to test ties, different types of ties. Hoists were mentioned but way to tie them to the structure were not, and that seems like an important issue when writing a brief. We spent a lot of time on CDM, LOLER, PUWER, noise, etc. All important and relevant but covered in detail on other courses. That time could have been spent on exercises - writing briefs for different types of TW, identifying faults (scaffolds would be great for that) in TW and a very simple worked example like assessing the wind load on a hoarding or ground pressure on a trench box.
Overall informative, a good refresher for someone with TW experience.
