“As a client, you can be assured of a service that is of the highest standard, tailored to your specific requirements, competitively priced and undertaken with a minimum of fuss.” (Heritage Restoration SW) Not in my experience!!! Although some of the work in my house has been done to a satisfactory standard, there’s a lot that is not and this firm has refused to return to my home and put right their errors and poor workmanship. Their final bill came in a more than twice the original quotation and the part of the bill for painting a 10-room house in emulsion paint soared from £14,000 approximately to almost £40,000! I don’t think anyone in their right-mind would think that’s “competitively priced”. Not only have I been charged a fortune for sub-standard workmanship, but my home was left in a terrible mess and in a dangerous state. To save yourself a lot of stress, upset and expense, I would recommend that you do not engage Heritage Restoration to do any building works for you. I have so many examples to cite here, but for sake of brevity, include just a few to illustrate how this business operates. Their estimate for painting the interior of my 10-room house with emulsion paint was £7,000.00 plus materials, VAT and an extra 15% for their operating profit, which sounded fair enough. However, when the painting was finished, to a very poor standard, they have charged me almost £40,000.00, with no reason given for the hugely increased cost of this work. Eventually the director of the firm told me that the painters had agreed to reduce the price for the labour from 22.5 weeks to a more reasonable 14 weeks, thereby reducing the bill by £10,000 + VAT. However, on final presentation of the bill, this agreed reduction was not included. They have refused to return to my house to undertake the snagging list which contains many items of work that have either not been finished or which were completed but to an unacceptable standard. I have had another builder supply me with a quote to finish/put right Heritage Restoration’s work here which came in at £27,000.00. They fitted a solid oak floor to 3 rooms which is so badly cupped and cracked after just a couple of months, that a flooring technician supplied by the manufacturer of the flooring described the damage as, “off the scale” and the floor as having, “failed”. To illustrate the degree of cupping (warping), it would be easily possible to trip over the floor boards. I have been supplied with a quotation to remedy this poor standard of workmanship which comes in at £16,000.00. Again, Heritage Restoration has denied responsibility for this and have refused to sort out their mistakes. Eventually both parties commissioned a highly regarded flooring expert to evaluate the floor. His report stated conclusively that the fitter was 100% responsible for the floor having failed. Despite this the builder has still not attempted to rectify the situation by correcting his mistakes. When they refused to explain their final bill, which as far as I could see contained numerous mistakes, I needed to employ a chartered buildings surveyor to go through their invoices and billing. He has told me that, even using their inflated figures, due to numerous billing errors they had overcharged us by approximately £30,000.00. Since reporting this to Heritage Restoration 4 months ago, I have not even received one word of apology or reply of any sorts. I really could not be more disappointed.
