Father of the Bride II

George Banks is back, and is even nuttier than before!

Father of the Bride Part II is the sequel to Father of the Bride and contains the same cast. Steve Martin is George Banks. George is a delightfully neurotic man who is just recovering from his beloved daughter [Annie - played by Kimberley Williams - who used to date Pete Sampras] getting married to Brian [played by George Newbern] in a rather lavish ceremony which George paid for. Everything is just settling back to normal when Annie and George's wife, Nina [played by Diane Keaton] both announce that they are pregnant, and [even more disturbingly] they decide that the legendary Franck [Martin Short] will be in charge of the baby shower].

This film contains some really wonderful scenes, in particular the scene when George is so stressed and sleep deprived that Franck gives him a sleeping pill, which leads him to pass out at the dinner table!

This is certainly not one of the best films ever made but if you're after something to make you laugh on a Sunday afternoon as you munch your way through a bag of popcorn then I would highly recommend this. I would advise watching Father of the Bride first, for continuity mainly but also because then you get to see more of the wonderful Franck!

This film does get rather over sentimental towards the end [especially after the babies are born]. It always makes my Dad cry. I think it's a real shame that so many American films feel that they have to go over the top with their sentimentality. I for one would have enjoyed this film even more if the sentimentality were toned down a little.

This is a single DVD with a running time of 102 minutes.
