Just Friends DVD

'Just Friends' is a romantic comedy by the director of 'The Sweetest Thing'. It is the story of a successful music executive called Chris. He is good-looking and successful, but all is not what it seems. Chris has spent the last ten years re-inventing himself. He was an over-weight geek in high school who was desperately in love with his best friend Jamie [played by Amy Smart]. Chris was turned down by Jamie because she saw him just as a friend and so he left home to live in LA. He lost weight and made a name for himself in the nusic business and hadn't been home since.
A chance fire in the microwave of the plane which Chris is flying on just before Christmas with aspiring pop diva Samantha James [Anna Faris], leads to the plane having to do an emergency landing near Chris' hometown. Chris is forced to take Samantha to stay with his family and it isn't long before Chris bumps into some old friends, including Jamie, who he has never got over. Will Jamie be interested in Chris now or will she still see him as her high school buddy?

Chris Klein as Dusty Dinkleman [Chris' nemesis] is wonderful. Such a sleaze! However, it is Anna Faris' character, Samantha James, who really steals the show. Samantha is a totally insane, Britney Spears wannabe, who is convinced that she and Chris are a couple, despite all the evidence to the contrary.
Ryan Reynolds plays a slightly more grown-up version of his 'Van Wilder: Party Liasion' character. Amy Smart is sweet and likeable and you do want her character to end up with Chris, but she is totally outclassed by Anna Faris' nutty character.

This film is worth watching just for the scenes of Ryan Reynolds as an over-weight, misfit teenager performing All 4 One's 'I Swear. Absolutely hilarious.
This one for the guys and the gals, there are some really funny moments, such as Chris' ice hockey accident and his fights with his younger brother. The chemistry between Amy Smart and Ryan Reynolds is sweet and Anna Faris is fantastic [particularly in the scene with the toothpaste!].

This DVD is rated 12 and is 90 minutes long. It may only be a single disc but it has some great extras, including an alternate ending, deleted scenes and the music video to 'Jamie Smiles'.
