Photographers Choice

Several years ago when mobile phones started to feature intregrated cameras i bought a Nokia 3650, a giant of a phone! I loved the thing, taking pictures was a brand new technology and struck a chord in me, everywhere i went i was constantly taking pictures. However much i enjoyed this phone the camera quality quickly became outdated. Seeing the K750i in an advert on television i was instantly drawn to the quality of pictures on it. waiting a long time for it to become available on pay as you go i finally got one and fell in love in its features going past the camera.

the look of the phone is subtle yet elegant, its distinguishing feature being a slide opening camera on the reverse of the black and silver phone. The keys are well spaced and responsive and very easy to use.

The multimedia player is something i hadnt encountered before purchasing the phone. Being able to upload songs from a computer using an included software package meant i could play any music i wanted anytime and didnt even have to settle for a polyphonic ringtone as i could use MP3s instead which puts a welcome end to having to pay stupid amounts just to get a ringtone that rarely sounds like the chosen song.

Finally, the camera. is fantastic, clear pictures and a fast shutter speed mean clear photos with no blur on them like often found on many phones. Sliding the camera open on the back opens the camera application meaning if a quick picture is no problem.

Buying this phone was a very good choice and i have been using it for over a year and a half simply because i dont want to use anything else. Even now phones are only just getting better in terms of cameras and this is now a cheap phone making it a great choice (i saw one for £39.95 two days ago).

A very good phone to have with little to complain about aside from the memory space which, although large enough for many pictures, texts and contacts, is not fantastic for storing more than 15 MP3s. However larger memory cards are very cheap and this is easily resolved.

So now the K750i is getting on a bit. With Sony Ericsson's newer models such as the C902 and K800i sporting ever more impressive features the temptation always lies with buying a newer model with the myriad abilities that nobody actually uses.
But there really is no need. If you are a professional photographer who uses their phone for work, the K750i probably isn't ideal for you. For anybody else who wants an excellent quality camera phone with plenty of features and support for mobile web-browsing and java games, this really is the perfect choice.
The phone itself looks great. It is available in black and silver cases, with an great aluminium shutter on the back to prevent scratch damage to the lens (and by extension, the entire back of the phone). The buttons are laid out sensibly and are large enough to press easily but small enough to stop it from looking like you've pulled a laptop out of your pocket. There are also several media buttons on the side of the phone (play/pause, volume/zoom and shutter release) which are handy if you plan on using the inbuilt media player. Media can be stored on the phone (which has admitted poor internal memory) or on a memory stick duo card which slots into the side.
The camera itself is great. Only around 50 full quality shots will fit onto the phone but with a now very cheap 2gb memory stick duo card this can be expanded to thousands. These can then easily be transferred onto your computer with the software provided, which has a clean, easy to use interface. The camera is an ample 2 megapixels and has an autofocus, meaning almost all of your photos are perfectly sharp. It also has an inbuilt light and night mode to allow pictures after dark.
Sounds on the K750i can also be stored on external memory and through the phones speakers sound like what you would expect them to through a phones speakers. The quality is overall poor, but just as good as any other phone produced around the same time, perfectly suitable for ringtones. The phone also comes with headphones, which allow you to listen to your music while on the move. The quality of this sound is very high, far better even than some mp3 players I've used. The K750i supports mp3 and some video playback.
Navigation is very simple and easy. A single button press takes you to the main menu from which the standard Messaging, Media Player, Contacts and so on can be accessed. The joystick above the keypad can also be assigned to shortcuts, for example, pushing the joystick left could be assigned as Create New Message. This saves a lot of time for frequent users.
This phone is astonishingly capable for it's age and at the time was one of the most desired handsets. Because the phone is getting on a bit now, it can be picked up for ridiculously cheap. The only flaw I can find in this phone is that the inbuilt radio sometimes has poor reception when you're inside a house or building. A lot of phones don't have an inbuilt radio.
