Finally the hit TV series Red Dwarf has made it into the new era by making its first appearance on DVD. For those of you who have never seen Red Dwarf, her is the basic plot of the show. Dave Lister is the only human left alive on a Space ship 3 million years in the future after being kept alive frozen in time. His only companions are Cat (a human like creature that evolved from his pet cat) and Rimmer, a hologram of his dead room mate, who he hates.
This concept is largely explained through episode one, which of all, is probably the worst one, but it is needed to make it clear to the viewer what exactely this sci-fi / comedy is all about. In each episode though, there are some hilarious witty remarks and supurb jokes being continuousely thrown at the viewer so as to never be a dull moment. The bonus features that they boast about on the front cover, however, are hardely anything the brag about. There is the standard deleted scenes and bloopers as is in every bonus disk for any DVD, but they also include Commentary by the writers and directors, which would be pleasing to the die hard fans, but not many others. This is then backed up with a Japanese version, music cues, a trailer, and a photo gallery. Not exactely usefull or entertaining. If you are interested in buying this DVD, buy it for the clever jokes and not for the bonus material.
